***Thread For BS/MD/DO 2023-2024 Applicants/Parents ***

@momsearcheng should be able to help with your questions.

Applications to LECOM and to UG are separate. You can apply to LECOM and then apply to the affiliate(s) you are potentially interested in. You have to list 3 on your application to LECOM but may change your college choice anytime before officially enrolling. I believe some affiliates have a separate LECOM enrollment process (I think St. Bounaventure does but I am not sure) - you need to check with each institution separately.

What’s the unweighted GPA? That will some idea if you will be competitive for Case.

Georgetown: Apply EA, if you can complete it by the EA deadline.

LECOM: Yes, you can submit LECOM application now. Two of my students have done that and already received invitations for an interview.
You are free to choose any feeder schools. I think 2 feeder schools should be sufficient. Only apply for more if you get rejected from those feeder schools.

Has anyone heard from PMM program (Penn State) either for interview or rejection?

Hi Mr. Gupta,

My daughter is currently applying for the Siena/AMC BsMd program.
Can she reach out to your daughter on the interview process. Any insights on this are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My son applied and got accepted to both Temple and W&J and is applying to BS/MD (Temple) through both. If he gets interviews from both, should he attend 2 interviews or will he be asked to choose?

Temple only does 1 interview.

Thanks. Can you please expand on the process of how Temple does 1 interview? Is the student asked ahead of time (if picked by both institutions for interview) which undergrad he wants to attend?

Also Temple BSMD had totally different essays for undergrad through Temple and undergrad through W&J.

Is W&J/Temple BAMD program guaranteed provided requirements are met to have seat at the LKSOM ? It looks like Temple/Temple BSMD is only guaranteed interview provided other requirements are met. What is the difference between these 2 options besides the fact that undergrad is at a different college? Question especially on the guaranteed med school admission , if anyone can help answer please. Thank you

Temple/Temple interviews are typically held in mid-Feb/early-March.
W&J and Temple interviews are typically after that.
Effectively, Temple makes a call on your app.

Yes, W&J/Temple is a conditionally guaranteed BS/MD while Temple/Temple has in the past rejected students at the interview stage.

That is why even when it is said that the med school interviews during undergrad are just a formality, it is not true.

If it is a formality: Either They would not have the interview in the first place or they would write either on their website or in the contract that it is just a formality.

In many of the BS/MD programs, the MCAT is just a formality and the MCAT scores are not considered, and they write it either on the website or in the contract, or they tell after acceptance or during the interview.

Hence if the college or the program does not tell that EXPLICITLY in some shape or form, then anyone can be rejected and not proceed to the med school phase after the interview. An interview is subjective and many other factors decide if you clear the interview or not.

Hence all the applicants need to be careful and take that into consideration once all acceptances come through.

On another note @srk2017 had mentioned Sometime back that USF had rejected about 6 - 7 students after the interview.

Similarly I have heard that this year about 6 students out of 20 in VCU did not make it to the med school. VCU does not have an interview. Most of them did not make the MCAT cut (in spite of it being so low) but there can be other things at play also. So now those kids have an undergrad degree (mostly biology or something like that) from VCU, and a low MCAT score making it very tough for them to join any med school.

I have also heard about some attrition rate in other programs…

The point is, once all acceptances are in, pls give deep thought to all the criteria and try to make a fair judgement for you or your child.

Thank you , these insights are really helpful.

It looks like FIU is also a pathway program in the sense that students apply to med school during third year of undergrad? Of all the programs on Florida especially for student with NMSF, FAU seems a close cohort with possible chances to get to med school? please correct if any of this is wrong and thanks again

Do you guys know which SUNY schools have been removed. My daughter is applying and found that Purchase college is no long on there and is currently visiting ESF, Syracuse, and Albany College of Pharmacy

Only Syracuse and ACPHS are remaining.
The rest are all discontinued for high school students.

SUNY Binghamton is still on as an EAP.

Why are they cancelling these programs?

I spoke to a admissions counselor at ACPHS and they said they dropped about 1/2 the schools because of concern about the candidates coming out not being prepared for Medical school since the MCAT is not required. Not sure if that means the remaining schools will get more seats. The crazy thing is this all happened in the middle of the application process, because the affiliations existed 2 months ago when we were applying to the various SUNY schools.

Thank you
