Thread for BSMD Applicants 2019

@DSOF20192023 I am not sure, I fully understood what you are stating. Let me use an example.

  1. 1st year, You study in remote campus or CC or just totally different school (from 2nd year on wards), as long as the 1st year school maintains a credit and will provide the transcript that need to be reported in AMCAS and it will be shown for that college with GPA value.
  2. In second year to 4th year, if that college, though it shows the courses taken in 1st year college but no credits, so be it. AMCAS you are not going to repeat the courses reported in 2-4th year college. Will show only courses taken there 2-4. In this college transcript, similar to AP courses, the courses taken at 1st year will be shown with no GPA per what you are stating.

@GoldenRock Main campus considers those remote campus credits for graduation but do not include them in their GPA and cGPA calculations. They are separate transcripts. As I understand we need to enter those credits from two transcripts into AMCAS and then AMCAS will calculate GPA numbers.

My question was if AMCAS would see less rigorous remote campus GPAs and may not give same weightage compared to going to completely different college that is comparable to main campus (instead of remote campus).

AMCAS doesn’t differentiate, some medical schools may especially if all the premed courses are done at CC or lesser known school. schools wants to make sure that students are not trying to game GPA.

How can I get a list of all the current BS/MD and BS/DO programs? Thanks!

SUNY Upstate is expanding to many UG colleges http://www.upstate.edu/com/admissions/options/bs-md.php

Tulane started a new program - https://advising.tulane.edu/pre-health/creative-scholars

I do not know why we do not have this info in one place after 425 pages of discussion

Have to make a premed UG decision. please give your feedback.

Case Western (Spring 2020) Vs UPitt Honors (Fall 2019)

I saw earlier many votes for Case Western compared to UPitt but this is slightly different as Case is offering Spring start option instead of Fall (this is because of dorms they say).

@DSOF20192023 last year my DS was offered gap year, I called it UG gap year, and we were off the CW wait-list immediately.
Here are threads from last year.

I never understood who really uses CWRU offer to extend acceptance either for next year or off to spring semester. That is one of the few schools, keep doing this for years.
Even 5 years back my friend’s son was given admission to join the next year. Who in the world wants to do that unless student wanted to do it as part of the plan.

@GoldenRock - Doesn’t CWRU gives good merit money? May be that’s sufficient for some to go for gap semester or year.

@srk2017 Yes,CWRU is very generous with merit money compared to other colleges of similar ranked.

@sajju786 @gallentjill @DSOF20192023 Thank you all for the information.

It seems that Tulane U’s program is NOT a regular combined BS/BA-MD program as students need to go through application and interview again at their sophomore year? Thanks!

@seapdx2002 Tulane has 3 programs, one for 2nd year, two others for 8 year and 7 years. you can see all three in the same page (see at the bottom)

Does anyone know which BS/MD programs have waitlists?

Is anyone familiar with how many applicants are accepted into Howard’s BS/MD Program each year?

Hi has anyone from the Rice/Baylor waitlist received a call/email?

PM me if you will be attending the UConn SPiM in the Fall.

Anyone on this forum attending rpi/amc?

@seapdx2002 - this is what @DSOF20192023 is referring to:

https://advising.tulane.edu/pre-health/path/special-programs/TPM
Tulane Pathways to Medicine

https://advising.tulane.edu/pre-health/path/special-programs/tap-tp
Tulane Accelerated Physician Training Program (TAP-TP)

my nephew is currently finishing up his first year there (not the program above) and really likes the school.

@OldSchoolMD
where did your child end up accepting?
