Three months to study for SAT Chemistry

My current chemistry class is going really slowly; so far we have only covered 5 chapters, up to ionic bonding. We're starting covalent bonding next week.

So I'm planning to self-study for the SAT chemistry test. I have the Princeton Review SAT Chemistry book and will use that book as well as SparkNotes to study. I'm also planning to use some chapters of my chemistry textbook, however I'm not going extremely thorough on it because I heard that the test only covers specific material, so I figured that I'd be better off just studying what I need to know for the test.

Will I make it though? I am taking SAT Chemistry on June the 5th. I have a little less than three months to study.

Also any tips would be nice. Thanks.

BUUUMP
I wonder the same thing. I’m still not sure if I should take chem or Biology though.
Is 3 months enough?

mmmm trust me chem sat II is ez as balls. all I did was memorize PR book, take 2 of its practice tests, skim kaplan’s and bam 800. But i didn’t even need kaplan, PR is the *****, some of the questions in the PR practice tests showed up on the real SAT II chem, just worded differently. gl

o yea 3 months is more than enough. reccomend 3 weeks minimum though

I’m in the same boat but worse, i’m taking it in MAY. ugh, i JUST bought barrons and now it seems like i should’ve gotten PR. I don’t have the money for both so oh well, barrons better do the trick.

is PR better than barron’s for chem?

maybe i should get both, but then i’d feel like i’d be wasting money.
all those ap test book and sat II prep book prices add up…

I don’t know how much better it is but most people here suggest it. I’m ordering mine this weekend online which is gonna be like $15. I think spending 15$ to get mabye a better score on an Ap is worth it.

is it better to buy prep books online or in stores ??

Sparknotes sucks. Period. Well, based on my experiences anyway. I suggest Princeton Review for most Sat IIs.

I’m studying for SAT II chem as well :stuck_out_tongue: I have barrons and I am using online sparknotes. Anyone know where I can get a hold of full length practice tests online? Ones that are more reliable than Sparknotes

I don’t know much about SAT II chem, but I’m taking it in May, just before the AP, so if I’ve studied the AP, I should be good, right?

If you’re taking AP I’d guess you’re good. I’m in AP right now and I’m taking the subject test in June. Our teacher said to expect an 800 or close to it after AP.

Use the princeton Review…The practice tests mirror the actual test and the review is concise.

Good luck
(Scored an 800 on the Subject test and a 5 on the AP Exam)

does barron’s have tougher questions?? y is it dat less ppl like it?I thot it wud be better if you practise tougher questions as dat makes u more confident.
Im from India…nd am giving d test in June…n barron’s is not available…however i was thinking of gettin it shipped…please tell if dis is a good idea?

No dude, you won’t be okay. I am taking my first of year of chemistry this year. My father bought me the Barron’s book way back in January, and the questions were HARD. You NEED a teacher to teach you the concepts or you won’t do well. 3 months is NOT enough time to prepare. My advice is to wait until a later date, so you have more time to study.

@ KeysUpOnTheTable: That’s kinda funny, because I self-studied like 80% of the concepts and got an 800 last month. Barron’s books are harder than the actual tests, probably what you’d use after you’ve gone through the blue book or PR. 3 months is ample time to self-study everything you need. Heck, I finished studying the material in less than two weeks, took 4 practice tests and aced the exam. You’ll be fine if you’re focused and dedicated.

so barron’s tests are harder than the real test? I’ve heard that they were close in difficulty to the official test. But I haven’t been doing well on the barron’s tests (the lab questions are killing me), so I’m kind of worried. I’ve also heard that the sparknotes tests are a lot harder as well. Is this true?
