So, we just discovered today that my son’s quad in Thurston has NO closets. It is just one huge (34’ long!) room and a bathroom. While the large room is a bonus, I was worried we had to bring a wardrobe or such. I contacted housing who said for rooms without closets they provide “additional dressers and wardrobes.” Just curious if anyone has had experience with these wardrobes?
Btw, I just discovered the no-closet thing by chance when looking at his floor plan. I had assumed the floor plans were just general drawings for size, but when I started looking at other rooms, they had study alcoves and closets in many different configurations and his is just one big rectangle! LOL.
It’s a very common thing at GW for students’ rooms to not have closets. I had a closet but no wardrobe freshman year, then sophomore on it was only a wardrobe with no closet.
I’m sure you’ll find a way to make it work. Are you driving to campus? If so, you can take what you want and if anything doesn’t fit you can bring it back home. I mean, you can fit a lot of clothes in the wardrobes, especially if it’s only dress/semi-casual shirts and jackets. Everything else can be folded and put in dressers/bed drawers.
Here’s an example of an upperclassman room: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qmRcgCLPjxE/T1fi3sAtu5I/AAAAAAAABzo/Gn9X_ST_zqE/s1600/junior+year+ivory+108+16.JPG As you can see, there are tall wardrobes, smaller dressers, and beds with large drawers underneath.
Oh, thanks for the picture of the wardrobe in particular. I think he’ll be fine; I just wanted to pass along the info to others in case they weren’t aware of the no-closet situation. The rooms we saw in Thurston at CI had huge closets. We’re flying from the midwest and shipping almost everything, so it’s important we understand what he needs ahead of time. Thanks again.
