Im taking Calculus AB exam. right now i have ti-83+. SHould i go buy a TI-89?? Also will a ti-89 help me more than ti-83+?if yes in what ways.
THANKS.

I would say NO unless you know how to use it already.
The ti-89 is clearly superior to the 83, especially in calculus, for its CAS.
BUT, the learning curve is higher than the 83's so for now, so close to the AP, I'd reccoment to use what ur comfortable with. If you have a few hours to sit down with teh 89 or someone to teach u the important functions, good for you!!

I don't think there's any reason to spend the extra money, especially with the test in 3 days.

Im so mad my 89 got stolen 6 months ago, so Ive been calculator-less since. Hopefulyl, ill find one to borrow before the exam. If not, 83 will suffice

The exam is 3 days away, and TI-89 is in Java as opposed to True-Basic (big differenace). The only way I could see you converting is if you know the computer programming language java, and than it still takes some time.

If you do use your TI-83, look up programs that the TI-89 can do automatically. You are aloud to have programs that other calculators have, for example

For my stats, TI-83 and 84s are usable. I have a 83, but the 84 has a Chi-squared independance test, while mine only has a goodness of fit, so I programmed the independance into a program slot so my 83 is on par with the 84.

Also, isn't it like $200?

I think they're about $150, but it's only, like, $10-20 more than the 84plus

ur right about programs, but i would assume no programs r necessary for the 89 bc of its CAS. if you konw how to use it, everything can be done on its interface, and many can be quickly downloaded onlnine with its convenient USB connection. It costs 100-150 bucks, and u prob could find 85 or so used.

how can i download new programs from computer onto my ti-83+?

for an 83+, you either need another calculator with the program (use the cable going on the back of the calc) or the ti connect cable with teh software to connect via usb or serial port.

It's difficult, but not impossible.

The 84/84+ is much more convenient.

where can i get the ti-connect cable?

online on hte ti website, at a store (stables, radio-shak, etc)
or ebay
