TI-84 Help?

I have no idea where this post would go and know that CC'ers would probably know better than Y!A'ers (at least based on my past experience), so here it is!

Is there a feature that will calculate sums of a series on the TI-84? I have the Plus Silver Edition if that makes any difference.

Thanks. :)

I don’t know of any way to do it on the calculator directly, but there are tons of programs that would have that. Check this site

[TI-83/84 Plus Files - ticalc.org](TI-83/84 Plus Files (not including the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition/CE) - ticalc.org)

The new OS has the feature (2.53MP). Go to the main screen and click F2 (ALPHA + WINDOW). You’ll see that choice #2 is the summation symbol. Choose it and you’ll get a pretty MathPrint display.

If you don’t have the new OS, download it off the TI website for free. If you don’t want to, download a program (or write your own).

If you are desperate, you can even put it in under sequence mode.
Ex: sum of n^2 + 2n from 1 to 50.

Put nMin to 1
Put u(n) to n^2 + 2n + u(n-1)
Put u(nMin) to 3 (1^1 +2*1…)
Go to 50 on the table…

That’s one way to do it without a program, but it makes you kind of prone to errors and is somewhat slow.

@314159265, if I don’t like the new OS, is it possible to revert to the old one?

Are there specific programs that work better than the others off of ticalc.org? I’ve used ticalc.org in the past but sometimes some programs are erroneous, and none of the sequence/series ones have reviews yet.

Thanks!

Yes. In the odd chance that you don’t like the fabulous new 2.55MP update, you can revert to 2.43 by downloading it from here.
[OLD NASTY 2.43 OS for LOOOOSERS YUCK.](http://web.archive.org/web/20080420184420/http://education.ti.com/educationportal/downloadcenter/SoftwareDetail.do?website=US&tabId=1&appId=6014)

That being said, the latest and greatest update is 2.55MP, and you can grab that here.

Enjoy!

mrfairladyz - haha, okay. What about program compatibility? I looked up some stuff on the 2.55 and many people said old some old programs aren’t compatible. WILL I LOSE MY PACKMAN HIGH SCORES? :)

Is it easy to learn on the new OS in two days? I’ve got a math test on Wednesday, too.

Ooh, there’s another update to 2.53MP? Yay!

What exactly is new? If the difference isn’t huge, I’ll wait until after State Mock Trial competition to re-figure out how to download an OS onto my calculator.

Also, what’s the latest OS for the TI-89 Titanium?

I didn’t check for compatibility with old programs, I don’t run any D: Sorry about that! The OS is essentially the same, but MathPrint basically gives you a visual on things like fractions, integrals, absolute value, derivatives, etc. so IMO it reduces silly errors with parentheses and stuff. You might want to take that math test, then update and get used to it.

The difference is not huge. you can read the full list of changes here http://education.ti.com/sites/US/downloads/pdf/84OS_v2dot55MP.pdf</a> , but really, if you have 2.53MP you’re essentially getting the same product. As for the Titanium, I don’t think there has been an update for years now. 3.10 should be the latest version.

Updated! Except I am finding the upgrade difficult to get used to, even with the manual. :-/

Which OS is the most recommended for TI 84 silver plus?

The latest is 2.55 - how good / reliable is it?

Advise appreciated as AP Calc AB exam is round the corner.

Read it in this review

[Print Page - OS 2.55MP released](Login)

Long term usage of 2.55mp on a real calc:
Don’t install it!
I am currently unable to plot any formula’s!
When I do so, it splits the screen into 2 parts and turns 'm around :open_mouth:
(The top of the page is on the middle, and goes down, and when it reaches the bottom of the screen, continues on the top of the screen)
If that makes any sense

Anyway, long term usage, don’t use it ;)

So, please help - if others who have the latest version with Mathprint find it sturdy?

thanks
