ti 89's and how they suck...

well... i'm sure they don't suck if you have one, or if i owned one... but when in calc class, ass clowns are beating me with them, u can understand my frustration...

compare... 2 students w/out ti. 89's who have been getting a's all year... final grades c+/b...

then 2 students who were failing tests at the beginning of the year... 38/120's those kind of grades...b/a-...

how... does... that... go on... without the teacher noticing something's wrong?

Get yourself a TI-89. Fast. 2 years from now, it won't matter who used the 89 or who didn't, but who has the A. Sometimes you gotta sacrifice morality. If you know the material, great, use a calculator to fix that grade. You know the material already so you're not losing anything. In fact, you're saving time and avoiding stupid careless mistakes. By the way, I have an 89. They rock. :)

haha, i don't have the c+... rather a-/a- midterm a- b

Well, I agree that TI89s can be unfair and really create an uneven playing field in the classroom. That being said, if they're allowed it's foolish NOT to take advantage of them. I think it is very important to learn the material without the help of a calculator but there's no reason to get walked on by your peers. Those curve busters with calculators are only taking advantage of what the teacher allows.

... my teacher has no clue about the abilities of the TI89

lol... no my teacher knows... he doesn't care...

TI89s are so amazing. =P it really helps out a lot

thats cuz at most college levels, TI89s are recommended and so at my school the teachers recommend students to get the 89, especially since u are allowed to use the 89 on AP tests and SATs

Why do they offer so much of an advantage? I've had one since the 5th grade, but am just wondering why YOU guys think they rock. I personally love them too and can't stand other calcs.

u didn't get to calc yet...

lol... good point.

gah i think its really unfair too. Everyone should have the same calculator, especially on the SATs. But theres pretty much nothing you can do cept buy a ti-89 for yourself. I got a ti-89 titanium for $150, so it aint that expensive. Just save up and get one.

Or you can always borrow one from the math dept over the school year.

or for us special ppl, we can ask for one as a gift for like a birthday or X-mas

I heart my Ti-89.

Ever since the warranty expired, I've had to fix it every now and then. THe link jack became detached, so I had to solder it back on. Actually, one time, one of the batteries exploded inside it while i was using it. It's sitting n my desk, and I hear this loud, high-pitched pop. I turn it over, and open the battery compartment to see that one of the batteries had split and was now sprouting white foamy liquidy acidy stuff.

I've since moved to rechargeables.

It's a known fact that graphing calculators make you smarter. The TI-83 can make you a little smarter, but the 89 is where its really at.

TI-83 annoy me to death for some reason.

my school doesn't have any 89's to borrow :-/

I got through calc without a TI-anything.

I don't recommend the experience...:(

can they do automatic factoring?

if that's all you're using it for, then it's a lost cause, but yes they can

It's your teachers fault for making the tests too calculator dependent.
