i cannot believe my daughter has already finsihed 2 years. Freshman ID year was fantastic. Sophmore year had its challenges with the interview and obtaining a co-op process (stressful for mom not so much for my daughter) and it wound up being a great experience. now she is starting summer semester and applying for her next co-op a few weeks into the summer semester. the only part as a mom i don’t like about the whole co-oping is only being able to see my daughter for a week at the end of every semester/co-op rotation. it is hard when you live out of town and it is an 8 hour drive.
I fully understand. We had the same issue when my daughter went on internships. However, it was a GREAT experience for her and really beefed up her resume.
@taxguy Long time, Taxguy. How’s your daughter doing? Must be well into her career now. My daughter is entering her Junior year now, and is on her 2nd co-op. Both are in Chicago, so she lives at home, and just saves the income from her paychecks to help pay for college. We love that we can see her while she’s working. The built in Co-op program at DAAP is invaluable. Firms aren’t in the business of training graduates anymore. The “entry level” positions out there today require experience and DAAP grads have that. I feel that they’re positioned to launch their post-grad careers much better than those without the extensive internship experience that’s built into DAAP.
She’s hoping to do a study-abroad term next Fall, as are her roommates, all great girls. I’m excited for her, and hope she gets picked. It’s quite competitive, and there are only eight slots.
Well, again, good to “see” you on the boards. Cheers!
good luck to your daughter balthezar on getting into the study abroad program. taxguy - yes it is great for the resume…really excited for our girls
