check the dates for orientation before you go

we took our daughter to orientation this week. we signed her up online for the industrial design DAAP orientation for the 16th/17th. when we went to sign in they told us they emailed everyone stating there was a date change. we along with some other families (all from out of town mind you) never received an email with the change in days. they said it was the 17th/18th. due to the fact that many of us that this happened to were from out of town and drove or flew far distances they were very accommodating to us. they let the kids participate with the orientation except for when they went to their specialized schools to eat lunch together.........they just told us to go to the parent lunch (our daughter included). the 2nd day they made sure all these kids were taken right away to DAAP and had the full treatment of signing up for classes with lots of extra time.

so before you go please check to make sure they didn't change the dates for orientation.

i actually just copied the original email we received when we signed up to show them i really did sign up for the correct date...........

That type of thing shouldn’t just rely on an indirect email. Anyway, it’s good to hear that they we’re able to accommodate you. Wednesday and Thursday worked out well for us and the Student Orientation Leaders were great. Glad to hear everything worked out for you daapmom. One of my daughter’s roommates was registering too, and they were able to get together and chat, so that worked out well too. Next up, July APs and schedule modification, followed by the August move in. Things are moving along…

my daughter was able to waive her english class requirement from her AP score last year. she wanted to take a gym type class but they wouldn’t let her…so she opted to take a public speaking class which i think will be great for her when it comes time for co-op interviews.

Yep, she was able to fulfill her initial English degree requirement too. She’ll be able to fulfill her directed elective requirement when her AP World History score gets in come July. She’ll then contact her advisor, and discuss options. Right now she has a placeholder Free Elective, Intro To Sociology course scheduled, but that’s likely to change before the term starts.

we just checked our daughter’s credit report…i guess the colleges get AP scores before the student does from collegeboard.org. she earned another english credit as well as her math credit. waiting to hear if she gets credit for AP digital art…so she is starting off school with 16 credits under her belt from AP courses…not too shabby

daapmom,

If you haven’t already done so, you should do a degree audit to find out where the AP Credit has fulfilled the ID degree requirements. While the university has accepted 21 Hours of AP credit for my daughter, only 12 is counting toward specific degree requirments, with the remaining 9 just counting towards the total hours requirement.

the only credit she will get are for her 2 english AP courses and her math AP course.
