TIME vs Newsweek vs The Economist vs National Geographic

I really need to increase my reading score.

I want a magazine that is similar to the passages in the SAT.
Or something that matches the content or style of writing.
Which do you suggest?

1)Time
2)Newsweek
3)The Economist
4)National Geographic
5)OTHER..

Honestly, there isn't a huge difference between any of them. Except that the economist might be slightly more advanced.

I would say Time or The Economist. The Economist is such a great read even if aren't doing it to prep for the SAT.

National Geographic is harder than TIME... TIME is a good read no matter.. I would say that it doesn't particularly help THAT much.. it helps but not amazingly for CR.. but the topics are GREAT.. u could use them for the essay really.

How interesting is The Economist? Is it mainly focused on economics?

I would imagine so ^

get a taste of the Economist by reading some of their articles on their website:

Economist.com

I like the Economist. Reading just one issue will make you so much more knowledgeable about current world events.

Which is important, because most Americans don't even know who the President of France is.

same with national geographic.. Time is for like .. just a morning read. Dont expect to find tons of vocab or stuff in there. The only good thing about it is that it covers mundane affairs which is good to know and helpful for essays.

Where are the Newsweek fans? I love Newsweek. Time and US News & World Report are also good.

I like US News & World Report; it's a nice read. not too much on the vocabulary thing though, I find the Economist to have more words that make you go "huh, what's that mean?". US News and World Report also recently had some heavy discount specials on their subscription where you get issues for really cheap.

Aye, those magazines are good to read.
I have a question: what do you guys do when reading? just read like when you read comics or you have to summarize in your head the main idea of each paragraph ....???

The economist is the best. I like National Geographic, but I concentrate more on their photos than their actual articles.

I would say National Geographic. The Economist has high level vocab compared to TIME or Newsweek but it's known for a quite concise style, which wouldn't help you with SAT reading comprehension since that can be a bit convoluted or nuanced at times.

^
o reallly?? im hearing several things from different people.. totally opposite opinions
i think im either going to go with TIME or economist.. which do you guys think matches the SAT passages more in terms of style and organization?

If you solely want to prep for the SAT passages... then there are tons of workbooks out there that have practice passages. If you want to up your reading level and your general knowledge, start with TIME. It's basic and cool. When you feel that you can devour the per week issue in one day and are still not satisfied, order National Geographic as well which is thicker and has long articles with big words (which will keep you busy and interested if you look up the words). That's exactly what i did.
BTW that's per month (National G)

lol okay.. actually ill reword that.. i already do sat prep books.. but i also wanna improve in my free time.. im hearing good things about time and economist.. and a bit about national geographic..
which magazine will be worth reading in my "free time"?? do u guys get it? i dont wanna read extremely lengthy articles or ones on boring topics...

Time, it's an easy read, it wont give you too much trouble.. and it's filled with many kool articles from movies to disasters in asia. I think that the majority of the main articles in TIME tend to be political which is also good.

I really don't like time. dont find it a very intense read vocab etc wise and it so obviously takes sides.

the economist is great. its a pretty uncommon magazine.

the TIME is great, i personally love the essay in the back of every issue.
