TIME vs Newsweek vs The Economist vs National Geographic

satorialiste, u think that time is better for cr than economist?

i think the economist would be great for the sat cr because the articles are sooooooooooo boring (imo) and some are kind of hard to comprehend + they got sat vocab

I really need to increase my reading score.

I want a magazine that is similar to the passages in the SAT.
Or something that matches the content or style of writing.

If you wish to improve your vocabulary, try The Economist. When I took the exam, there was the word "halcyon" popped up. Fortunately, I learned it from The Economist and got it right :). Try The Economist.

october 2007 exam eh ^, lol i knew halcyon cuz i learned it from some vocab book. Anywho, national geo is good for vocab too. Time is more general, if you want hardcore prep for CR stuff, do passages and try national Geo or the economist. If you want light basic just up your reading level a tad bit prep, then go with TIME.

I haven't looked at the SAT for a year so I could be wrong, but from what I remember its reading passages are mostly excerpts from novels, personal essays, or expository pieces on some subject. I still think National Geographic would be good for at least the last two categories, but it is a monthly publication so it probably wouldn't be ideal for practice. Go with TIME, but only the bigger articles will probably help you; it has a lot of little pieces that vary in quality and tone. The Economist is a much more intelligent publication but I don't know if its style would necessarily mesh with the SAT. Plus, in all honesty, it's more likely that you'll actually read TIME... a lot of people think The Economist is boring, lol. It's kind of dry (but imo in a good way!)

if you plan on improving your CR this way, you need ALOT of time--if you want to improve your CR score in 2-3 months, you need to study the actual SAT strategies

^
oh i have a lotta time.. almost an year.. but i lack speed wen i read and wen i solve the questions.. so im trying to practice picking out the main ideas fast enuff from each paragraphs.. thats why i wanna practice with things that are similar with the SAT passages

^
soo.. im sure im getting national geo..now i wanna choose btw economist and time but itss suchaa close tie

okay, national geo is monthly, TIME is weekly.. idk bout Economist.. go with TIME... czu if u dont like economist.. ure wasting so much money if u dont read it.......... TIME, there has to be something in there u like.

k then its decided.. thanks guys

i think NYTIMES is awesome!!!

economist is wayyyy too boring sometimes.

I would say the NYT, by far. It comes every day and it has article on a wide variety of topics. The economist is a fascinating read, but it can be considred 'overly complex' in a sense, also the occasional britishisms might throw you off on a singular/plural question. Nat geo articles are far too long and in many ways they aren't like SAT passages.

time. I'm really biased toward Time tho.
