Tip for rising HS Juniors considering Furman

If you are a high school junior considering Furman, you might want to consider looking into their Summer Scholars Program. It offers a choice of several one week courses like Mock Trial, Psychology of Stress, Leadership Quest, etc., which are taught by Furman professors. It gives the student the opportunity to live in a dorm with other high school students and attend classes, eat in the dining hall, etc. It provides a great exposure to campus life.

My D was looking to take a summer program a couple years ago and ended up deciding on the Furman program. She took 2 one week courses, Psychology of Stress and a Fit for Life, a nutrition and fitness program. She loved the experience and it was her first time away from home on her own. It made her first day of college much easier since she already had exposure to meeting new people and making friends. She gained a lot of self confidence and a sense of independence. It was a godsend for her and our family. D ended up applying to Furman and is now a very happy freshman. It is a great program and would recommend it highly. I believe their deadline is May 1st.

Hi, I just enrolled in the Mock Trial Summer Scholars program. Did your daughter like it? What were the people there like? Sorry for the questions but Furman is currently my top school and I’m really looking forward to the program.

My D did not take Mock Trial but she said the students that did were the ones that worked the hardest. It is long hours but outstanding prep work.
