Tips and Advice for Local Scholarships?

Hey everyone!

I've been clueless, and very unlucky when it comes to these online scholarships. I decided that maybe I should go my local scholarships within my area. Can anyone offer advice and tips upon that? It would be very much appreciated. The sooner the better for me, financially.

Thanks!

If you need money for school, then you need to apply to the SCHOOLS that give scholarships…those will be for FOUR years, instead of just one year.

For local scholarships, those are also usually ONLY for freshman year, but if you ask your high school GC, she may know of some to apply to. The GCs webpage on the school’s website may also list some.

If you’re going to be a freshman this fall, then it may be too late at this point since those apps needed to be in while you were a senior.

My son’s private Catholic HS didn’t have the greatest guidance dept. and they didn’t have too many local scholarships on their bulletin board – maybe 2 or 3. I looked up the guidance websites for some of the better private schools in our area and lucked into some great lists of local (and national) scholarships that his own school didn’t know about. The public high schools didn’t have these lists on their websites. Heck, most of the public high schools didn’t even have websites! This was about 9 years ago and I’m sure it has changed, but it’s worth spending some time with Google and looking for these types of lists. A lot of private schools require password logins for their webpages but some are wide open.
