I just took a practice test and got a 191. I'm disappointed in this score, because it's below the cutoff in every state for the scholarship. I thought I would do better since I got a 33 on the ACT. Taking this practice test is the only prep I've done. What can I do to get 210+?

Get a SAT prep book. There are sample tests, as well as hints on strategies for the SAT that will also apply. If you have only taken one practice test, your score will most likely improve with additional preparation.

Are you trying to prep for this year’s test?
Get the Kaplan PSAT book. It has several practice tests and clear test taking tips. Do the whole book. Read it carefully–don’t skim over the tips. Do all the practice tests and analyze each question you get wrong to reduce your chances of getting the same type of question wrong on the real test. If you have time, get the Official SAT Study Guide (blue book), and do as many practice tests as you can stand, and analyze your errors. (Skip the essays for now.) Good luck!

And to anyone else who might be reading this who is serious about making the NM cutoff–do not wait until the last month/weeks before the test to start prepping. Prep hard in the summer when you have more time. Even better, start prepping the summer before that if NM is something that really matters to you.
