Tips For Moving Out

Has anybody used any of the packing and storage services? When my son moved in we flew so we purchased everything in Ann Arbor. He is flying home at the end of the semester so now we have the dilemma of whether to pay for storage or figure out a way to get it all home. Ideally I would like to store the coats, boots, etc but there is still a lot that needs to come home. All suggestions appreciated.

I didn’t realize that was a “packing and storage” service in Ann Arbor. There is a great such service at Wash U where my older son goes. But my husband was planning on going to Ann Arbor, renting a car and putting everything in a storage locker. Is there a service?

I googled it and there are a few that provide the service. Do you know approx how much you paid when you used someone for your son?

Those services that pick up and deliver are expensive compared to packing yourself and bringing it to a storage facility. There are many strorage locker type facilities in the area if you google.

These guys are linked from the umich.edu web site. I have no experience with them nor any financial interest.

oosmom18: You asked how much my son paid for the service. Just to be clear, his service was provided at Wash U. It was a student run business that was extremely efficient. The provided boxes, picked up at a selected time and delivered in fall at a selected time. Don’t remember how much but not cheap. Maybe $350 but depends on number of boxes. But for my younger son my husband has to pay for a flight to Michigan and they will rent a storage locker.

Sorry this is a little late since the end of the semester is already here - but John’s Pack and Ship is a service that comes to the U Mich dorms, sells boxes and tape, and takes your student’s boxes away to their storage facility to store over the summer. We used them over the summer before move-in and the summer between first year dorm-living and second-year apartment living. On the designated day in fall, they delivered the stored boxes to the apartment. Very handy.
