My essay is WAY too long (over 1,700 words) and I need tips on cutting it down to a reasonable length. I already went through and deleted a few wordy phrases and unnecessary words, but that didn't help much.

Any advice on cutting the length?

If you PM it to me I will help you. I am not a student and will respect your confidentiality.

This is more of a strategy to cut down a few words, not hundreds like you need to cut but you can always try to take out unnecessary "this"s and "that"s.

Beyond that and assuming you wrote you essay intro to conclusion and didn’t start in the middle or anything, you could try cutting out the first couple sentences and maybe even the first paragraph entirely. The first sentences you write often have nothing to do with the essay itself because they are based on where you THINK you are going to go with your essay, not where you actually went with it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Also, it’s my Common App essay, so I’m assuming that it should be no longer than 750 words based on what I’ve been told.

No problem. (:

I haven’t read your essay so I can’t speak to it specifically, but I know alot of people try to write about alot of events but it may be better to concentrate on just one or two. You could cut down on your word count significantly this way.
