Tips on writing a good DBQ response?

Due to a discerepancy in the curriculum of the high school that I recently transferred to and the high school that I came from, I wasn't allowed to take the prerequisite classes for an APUSH class. Therefore, I have to take a written test to get in to the class.

I was told by an APUSH teacher that the "writing test" is basically an analytical response to a document.

So can anyone give me some tips on how to write a good DBQ?

The DBQ is by far the easiest. You have 9 documents and all you’re doing is pretty much evaluating and analyzing the documents given to you and how they seemed to have affected said area/timeframe.

post this in the AP forum!!

and the search tool is ur friend. use it. :)

Step 1: Read the question
Step 2: Read the Document(s)
Step 3: Categorize the document(s)
Step 4: Formulate the essay so that each body paragraph explains the views in a particular category.
Step 5: Your thesis should explain the relationship between the various categories.
Step 6: Use as many documents as possible but not necessarily all of them.

Don’t be afraid to be formulaic on a timed test.
