I’m taking principles of Microeconomics in the spring and i’m concerned that this course will be difficult. I took Econ in high school and got a C because I had a bad Teacher. Hopefully I have a good instructor for this course. I understand that this course may have some graphing and other math related things. I’m taking this course because it’s reccomended for one of my social science gen eds for all my interests of Engineering, Agriculture, Biology, and construction management. I would appreciate advice for doing well.
Micro is a tough class (at least my university) however if you take good notes, attend every class and then use resources like ACDC Economics on YouTube for areas you’re weak you should be fine. Micro definitley involves a lot of graphs and its vital you understand these to succeed.
@JackM82 I seen from your other threads that you’re an economics major or were one, were the upper level classes easier than macro or micro? What made you decide to major in Economics?
I honestly don’t know how I got a C. Mostly failed the exams, but I’m just not a good taker for a subject like economics. Economics requires logic and thinking. I only passed because my homework was high enough. Mirco for me was harder than Marco. Marco, I understood more because it made sense to me. I would recommend reading the book and do the exercises and explain the logic to yourself. I still have the economics book and whenever I read it again, sometimes I regret not trying harder and understand instead of just memorizing. At the end, I passed and happy.
@SuperGeo5999 I was an Economics major but switched to PoliSci since that would be more helpful to my GPA. Upper division Econ classes are very difficult and much harder than Micro/Macro. I still love Economics and plan on taking more government coursework involving economics.
I got this for my daughter:

I’m considering taking micro next semester. If interpreting graphs wasn’t an issue, would micro be pretty easy?
I’m concerned I’ll have to actually draw graphs in this class because I did once in my high school ECON class.
You might or not have to draw graphs. Although, it would be important to understand what the graph really means.
I HATE Micro!!! I was going to major in Business but switched to Sociology. I just couldn’t get the stuff. I prepped for the exams but it’s like the exams were all French to me. Micro was the first and only Pre-Business class I took so I found out quickly Business wasn’t for me.
Just food for thought. If you got a C in a high school ecoonomics course, do you have the foundation needed for a college level economics course? You might consider talking to your future economics professor about what you need to know going in and determine if you need to take a college level Intro to economics course. You might be perfectly fine but it probally worth a discussion.
@noname87 Idk about the OP’s school, but at both my CC and university, principles of econ IS the lowest-level class for econ.
At my community college, it was the lowest level class for econ. I did almost every homework. Got about 80s and 100s sometimes. I did poorly on the exams but actually, it wasn’t hard. Just that I suck at the concepts which were confusing for me to understand during that time. I think if I were to retake the course, I would have gotten a higher grade. In both Marco and Mirco got C. I was like 4 points off from getting a B in Marco.
@NASA2014 Friendly correction - it’s Macro(economics), not Marco (Polo). And Micro(economics), not mirco.
I only took Macro, and my professor is supposed to be fairly hard - her homework was absurdly long, I thought (50-60+ problems per week) but the class was straightforward for me and I finished with something like 97%. I have no interest in economics as an academic subject, but maybe I didn’t struggle because I’m good at math.
@CharlotteLetter I know its Macroeconomics, but it’s really annoying to write all name. Even my friends say Marco or Mirco.
@NASA2014 I agree, I was just pointing out that it’s MaCRo, not MaRCo (ditto for miCRO, not miRCo). Sorry.
Ah, I see. Thanks for that! I will say Macro and MICRO). What are you majoring right now, @CharlotteLetter?
@NASA2014 Technically I’m a high school junior (that’s graduating in May), but I’m essentially majoring in applied math and stats, minoring in French (more than halfway done with my degree through dual enrollment). You’re bio, minoring in math?
@CharlotteLetter Yes, I’m majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Math. Are you planning on taking Calculus 1 in college? If you’re taking AP Calculus that would be useful. I started Algebra in senior of high school. Went to community college and transfer after calculus 1. Should have stayed to complete the calculus sequence but I decided to transfer. Next semster I will be taking Calculus 3.
Calculus 2 is on a different planet.
If she’s halfway done with a math degree I’m pretty sure she’s taken Calc 1 or its AP equivalent lol
