I have heard rumors that Tisch’s undergraduate film acceptance rate is incredibly low. Is there anyone here who can verify this and/or give me numbers? I can’t find any and I’m curious.
I wouldn’t worry about the numbers. Part of the reason it’s so low is because film, unlike many other academic disciplines, isn’t very self selecting. Everybody wants to make movies, and since Tisch has the reputation that it has, many people apply there who could never get in.
So in theory Tisch film may have a lower acceptance rate than some of the top engineering schools in the country, where only really really smart and qualified people bother applying in the first place. However, that’s irrelevant.
A better question is of the applicants that have the HS grades to get into NYU in the first place as well as at least some experience/promise with visual storytelling, which ones are accepted? I’d guess it’s a pretty high number, although I couldn’t tell you. I just went there.
Tisch’s acceptance rate is around 60%.
jk, I’m trolling
