Tisch Freshman Here to Help!

Hey guys! So I'm currently a freshman at NYU Tisch as a drama major. I know early decision notifications are coming out soon and I'm here to help if you have any questions about anything related to NYU or Tisch or the drama department!

How is Spring Awakening shaping up?

Is there word on whether Alec Baldwin’s class will be for one year or one semester?

From what I’ve heard, Spring Awakening is going to be great. My one professor is working on it so she’s been keeping us somewhat updated and I believe casting is just about finished on it. I don’t know much else other than though!

Alec Baldwin is teaching at a different studio than mine but from what I’ve heard his class is available for a semester, I believe it’s this spring. It’s for upperclassmen only and an audition is required.

How much/often do Drama and Film students collaborate?

Film students are always in need of actors for their student films and other assignments, so there’s collaboration in that way. The only class you’ll have with each other freshman year is Writing the Essay since all Tisch kids get put in a different section than the rest of NYU. My roommate is a Film major and I’ve already helped her with multiple projects and there’s always casting notices and auditions going on if you look for them.

Hey I applied to NYU Dramatic Writing ED1 and I am freaking out. I really think my portfolio was written very well and it was very creative. I’m freaking out because I can’t picture going anywhere else but I know how hard it is to get in. Do you know how many people apply to the dramatic writing? I mean is it as popular as drama or film and television? Does that help my chances? Also is an sat of 1830 a guarantee that I can’t get in? sorry these nine days are killing me!

I don’t know much about the Dramatic Writing program, but it’s a lot smaller than the Drama and Film and TV departments. As long as your portfolio was well prepared and creative, you probably have a chance! My SAT scores were terrible, lower than yours, and I got into Tisch so that’s never a guarantee you won’t get in. NYU looks at more than just grades and stats, especially if you’re applying to Tisch. Good luck!

@missj212 Do you mind telling me what your SAT score was? Mine is incredibly low and I feel as though it may be the only thing standing in my way. My GPA and everything else is good and I thought my audition went great. But I’ve noticed that so many people at NYU had such high SAT scores, I’m so scared :(

I believe my SAT score was around 1790 and my ACT was 27. So, as you can see, pretty low for NYU standards but I was still admitted! You never know! Good luck!
