Hey guys,

Ever since the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music began its first year, I have been extremely enthusiastic about the program. There is not one single department, or college, that I'd rather get into than NYU's Tisch ReMu program. I have worked incredibly hard to produce the best possible artistic resume while also sustaining a good academic performance.

However, no matter how hard I worked, I seemed to always fall short of my expectations. I ended Junior year with something around a 3.4 GPA, and that's with taking all honors and AP courses. This surprised me to say the least, and I am certain it is because I gained a few C+ marks in my honors science courses (DEFINITELY NOT my strong point). My SAT scores were also not what I desired, even after countless hours of studying and going to tutors. I ended up with my highest score in all three areas adding up to something around a 1780.

I'll list my honors and AP classes now:

HONORS:
Math: Geometry, Algebra I and II, Pre Calculus, and Calculus (not AP though)
Science: Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
English: Freshman and Sophomore year
History: Sophomore year

AP:
United States History
Language and Composition
Computer Science
Literature
United States Government and Politics
Economics

So that's six APs in total. I have always gotten good grades in these classes, and, especially recently, I have received good grades in my math courses. I also took one year of Spanish and two years of Latin.

The one catch to all of this is that I suffer from Tourettes Syndrome - as some of you may know, it is a disorder that at times can intensely distract you from getting the best education possible. It has always been a philosophy of mine, however, that I should never have to "lower" myself to anybody else due to this condition which I was born with and have no control over. With just determination, I have been able to overcome a significant amount of this issue, while being able to take all of the advanced classes and getting the good grades. I could have easily taken the easy way out and received special treatment and gone to special ed classes instead. This makes for one damn good college essay.

My artistic portfolio, however, will appear more important to the actual Tisch admissions staff. They do not even see the academic portfolio, I'm told! Anyway, I have done a LOT of work to make myself one of the premier musical names in my home town. I have set up my own production label, which you can see at www.gwohlproductions.com - and I have also published a couple CDs (mostly of avant-garde and jazz music). I have promoted and performed in many concerts, and I have posters, ticket stubs, news paper and magazine ads, et cetera to prove it. I have a MySpace set up at www.myspace.com/gwohlproductions - I, most significantly, invented a new form of

(........................................EDIT: I'm an idiot. I originally posted some ideas that I probably shouldn't be telling anybody else. I don't want to give my competition any ideas. Sorry about this.......................................)

So, after this long, honest rant, I need to only ask one question: What are my chances? I apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to lay it all out as honestly and completely as possible. Anybody at all who has experience with the ReMu department, or Tisch undergrad in general - how can you weigh in on this situation? Are my artistic achievements going to outweigh my academic situation? Have any of you shared traits with me that has enabled you access to the program? I am really desperate for answers here - I know I can't change much now, as I will be applying early decision, but I need to have a clearer answer in my head so I can live as peacefully as possible as I begin to put everything in my portfolio together.

Advice in this matter is dearly appreciated! Thank you in advance for any help given!!

Best,
-Andrew
