<p>He seems like a really nice kid though. I was impressed by his explanation of how the social sciences and math differ; it was very respectful and insightful. I don't think he's one of these narrow people that never thinks outside his own discipline.</p>
<p>It's not what I would want for my child, but if he's capable of doing the work, and wants to do it, I don't see what the point would be in his staying an undergraduate longer. He's got at least 8 years more of school ahead of him, it sounds like he has friends and likes what he's doing (given that he turned down some excellent alternatives), so why slog along now and risk burnout later, before he gets to what he really wants to do? Though it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up never leaving UVA, just staying on and on as a professor, then dean, etc.</p>
