To all fellow new Cal Veterans

I just received this to my Berkeley email. Needless to say I am really glad to hear it. Go Bears!

FYI:

Dear new Cal Veterans,

In addition to welcoming you to our campus community, I am pleased to
share the following information with you regarding a new benefit
afforded to all undergraduate veterans on the Berkeley campus.

The following statement is taken from recent state legislation SB 272:

This bill would require any member of the Armed Forces of the
United States to be given priority in the enrollment of classes at
the California State University and the California Community Colleges
for the first semester attended at one of these institutions after
leaving active duty, if the student enrolls and begins attending
classes within one year of leaving active duty.

As part of our commitment to student veterans, Berkeley is taking this
opportunity to extend this benefit to all veterans regardless of date
of separation and will offer this priority enrollment status
throughout a veteran's entire time at Cal. Priority enrollment means
that veterans will have the opportunity to enroll in classes during
the first day of each TeleBears phase. Because your Phase I
appointment will coincide with the CalSO (Cal Student Orientation) you
attend, this benefit will commence with the beginning of Phase II of
TeleBears for the Fall 2008 semester.

To be eligible for this benefit, please deliver a copy of your DD form
214 or NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) form to me in the Transfer,
Re-entry, and Student Parent Center by 10 July 2008. After I process
your documentation, the Office of the Registrar will update your Phase
II appointment time to reflect this priority enrollment status.

If you have any questions regarding this priority enrollment program,
or any additional veterans services, I invite you to visit me in the
Transfer, Re-entry, and Student Parent Center (TRSP) or feel free to
contact Michael Cooper or Rose Chan-Gee in the Office of the Registrar:
