To all parents.

Hello, I am a high school student and I just thought that thhis would be nice to start. Well how are you parents? How is life? What's new? How is the whole college process? Stressed? Nervous?

ROTFL – not as stressed as you kids apparently are, you should be asking kids how it’s going. We did the college thing so many decades ago it’s but a dim memory. The only stress is writing the checks…

Yes, momofthreeboys got it right. My two kids are both in college now. We survived the admissions process and they’re both happy and thriving at their respective schools. The only stress I have to face is when I look at the balance in our bank accounts.

When you go through a meat grinder together, you come out closer than ever.

Yep. BFF! ;)

Kipling wrote that a man needed to be able to “walk with kings” but “keep the common touch.” What he didn’t write was how dangerous a man (or woman) is who thinks they can do these things when he/she can’t. We parents think we are in touch with our children and our children’s lives. To us, college years were just an eyeblink ago and we think we are experts.

In truth, the world changes – sometimes rapidly so. We don’t even know how clueless we are. So we have the ignorant-but-certain leading the confident-but-immature (sorry, but at 17 to 19 people are going to be immature in one category or another. It just is so). Results are . . . varied but predictable.

How is life as a parent? Like sailing. Sometime exhilarating, sometimes tedious, sometimes terrifying and always expensive.

Well parents are concerned about acceptance, life during college, and life after. Which one are you inquiring about??

And I love

Olymom—I enjoyed your post…you said that so well.
