To all people asking about chances,

there is no greater crapshoot than the ivy league. I don’t say this with a 2300-2400 SAT, I say this with a 1640 (out of 2400). My GPA was 3.2 (weighted); despite all this I still got into Brown…and on full financial aid. How about that, suckas? ;)

legacy? athlete? some huge hook in your app?

otherwise, something sounds a bit off here...

Not legacy or athlete. I was an international, so when I came here, I was eligible for these travelling/educational programs for the poor (or basically anyone not an american citizen). I basically got paid to go on vacation around the world! Plus organizations just love helping "those in need." So basically I don't have to pay for college because I was poor and not originally from this country. Also my stats didn't have to be spectacular. I LOVE the system! But in all seriousness, I do believe I had an unfair advantage over qualified applicants; no one else in my shoes (and yes there are many) will agree with this. But I keep it real.

Erm...I have slightly better stats than you and dont need aid--are you saying I wouldve gotten in or had a great chance at Brown? I dont think so.

You havent exactly explained what set you apart.

No. The fact that I was poor and admitted into these programs for the poor set me apart.

Like certain universities give poor students an opportunity to do research. So I took part in prestigious research even though hahahah I got like a C+ in bio... but yeah fin aid is based on need. So even though I was a "weak" applicant, I still got a full ride. Yep.

In short don't worry. It's can be random sometimes.

What country are you from, MomCanITransfer?

and, you still want to transfer??? MomCanITransfer?

That makes no sense in the slightest, but it's a special case nonetheless.

It make sense in that admissions (at least for undergraduates) wants to see diversity, travel, exploration of the mind...it's just easier for some than others.

That being said...given how well you did in Bio...you will still have to step up to the plate when you attend Brown. You are being given an opportunity that many with stronger stats will not have-make the most of it-and prove to yourself that you DESERVE to be a Brown graduate. You may surprise yourself! Good Luck!

I wouldn't take this too seriously. While I do believe this is possible, MomCanITransfer, for lack of something better to do, has been bashing Brown all over these boards with ever post. Go check to read other posts by him/her.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Also, if they are foreign, then their aid is not solely based on need - that claim (I think) was a lie.

this is pointless. he/she tries to make a claim that testing scores and grades don't make a difference, because it's "so random," but then states exactly what his/her gigantic advantage was, making it not so random. regardless of whether or not this is at all true, it is now a moot thread.

you sound proud of your mediocre grades and decidedly low sat scores. i don't doubt that you've accomplished many things given your circumstances, however your attitude seems off base. i hope you do take advantage of your time at brown.

he's not going to Brown. why is he just now mentioning he was admitted?

trollllllllllllll

He's an attention seeker.

I wish you people wouldn't resort to calling me a troll. And yes, I did get into Brown with those scores. No not this year, hence my terrible user name.
