Chance?... yes this again

I hate to post this, but I’m pretty curious as to how Brown would view me (I have a specific question I’ll ask below.) I’m applying regular decision.

Grades:
GPA: 3.86 weighted, 3.94 (10th & 11th grade only) (out of 5.0)
SAT I: CR-700 M-730 W-740 = 2170
SAT II: Spanish-720, US History-740, Bio (molecular)-700
APs: Human Geography-5, Spanish Lang-4, US History-4, Biology-4

Senior Year Courses:
AP US Gov & Politics, AP Econ (micro/macro), AP Spanish Lit, AP Env. Science, AP English Lang, Directed Studies in Cinema, Technical Theater

So I know my GPA is not awfully high. I attribute this mostly to the extremely rigorous school I attend (I won’t mention it’s name for anonymity reasons, but it’s top 20 in the country; no I’m not making that up.) I’m wondering if Brown could “see past” it, for lack of a better term, and how heavily they take GPA into account.

Extracurriculars:
-Chef at 2 Michelin star restaurant (3 years (3 days/week during summer, 1 during school))
-Hebrew School student (once a week for 2 hours/week since I was in elementary school)
-Stagecraft/Tech Theater: (all 4 years of high school)
-Executive Editor of our Foreign Language Magazine (only in country)
-worked at SunAmerica Financial Group (15 hours a week during summer between 11th and 12th grade)
-Instructor at a tennis program for at-risk youth (6 weeks a year, 12 hours/week)
-Meals on Wheels Charity volunteer (throughout year)
-Spanish Peer Tutor at my school (senior year)

Ethnicity: White

Thank you for your time.

Do you go to H-W?

Were you ED?

REA to Stanford

Sorry for the late response…

I think you have a very compelling background for Brown–well-rounded and intriguing. That said, your SAT scores are a bit low to fit in the “shoe-in” level, I suppose. All the same, I wouldn’t stress too much about GPA given that your soph-junior GPA is in the 3.9+ range. Just be sure to highlight in your interview (hopefully this isn’t late advice! :/) the nature of your school and the competition you’ve had to deal with.

Also, you seem very committed. If you plan on continuing your dedication to these involvements, I would definitely mention that in your interview. Many kids do a ton of cool things but don’t continue them, and it’s a sad fact. Your passion must come through.

Best of luck!
