To any student that has applied to Shenandoah in the past few years:

If you applied to this school, what did you feel you would get out of this program that would make you marketable in the future? Many schools seem to offer singing, acting, and dancing – so what made this school stand out for you?

For my S it was the fact that they do a variety of productions every year in addition to their musicals: regular plays, youth theatre, and even an opera. He also likes the smaller school atmosphere and the smaller town.

racmom,

I am a sophomore in the MT program here and I definitely would say Lara Teeter convinced me to come to Shenandoah. The day of my audition I thought everyone was so friendly and kind. I just felt so relaxed at the audition and I loved the conservatory building. There were so many practice rooms, and I loved the size of the theatre. I also saw a musical (The Will Roger’s Follies) and also a Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre show (42nd Street) that I thought were so well done and the students were so talented. To top it off, Lara loved me at the dance audition. He pulled me out of the group of dancers and said something like “Everyone! This is Michael Nagy. Watch him dance and mimic what he does!” It was definitely an incredible moment. Unfortunately, Lara is teaching at Webster University now and a lot of us miss him incredibly, but I loved my time that I had with him (including sharing the stage with him in our musical Two Gentlemen of Verona last spring).

For my daughter, she also liked the small school and the town is beautiful. She enjoyed her audition very much. She told us on our way home, that this is where she wanted to go and felt at home. She has been accepted and is very excited about going to Shenandoah for MT. She said the students and staff involved in the audition made you feel comfortable and were all very nice, and that this was the best audition and most comfortable one she had. After visiting Shenandoah and auditioning, she moved this school to the top of her list of schools she wanted to go to. It is about a 3 hour or so drive for us but it is a much nicer drive then trying to get into Pittsburgh and a lot prettier. We are looking forward to looking around the town of Winchester a little bit more and hopefully being able to see a show at Shenandoah in the near future.

My daughter is trying to formulate a list of schools she would like to apply to. We actually live in Winchester and D. takes singing and acting lessons with professors at the school. She has been with the singing teacher for three years and my daughter has improved tremendously. She would actually like to try to find a school outside of the town, but I think we both feel if she can get an education that is going to help her be employable in the future, that is worth more than leaving Winchester right now.
