I am currently a junior in high school. I've been trying to decide which science course to take next year and I'm not sure what to do. I will be taking Honors Physics this year so it would make sense for me to go on to an AP science of some sorts. However, science is a field that I am not currently interested in pursuing as a possible career. Also, I don't particularly enjoy science so I'm not sure if it would make sense for me to take an AP. But, I am worried that if I don't take an AP science course it could hurt my chances to getting into my colleges of choice. My thinking is that colleges will assume I didn't challenge myself enough in taking an academic science course my senior year. Some of the higher end colleges that I am looking at include Johns Hopkins and Georgetown. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Course selection at my high school is this week so a quick response would be awesome. :)

I have no idea what your other courseload includes for next year. Example - if you are also taking AP Calc, AP Engl Lit and AP Spanish – then I don’t necessarily think it is a bad thing that you take another Honors science class (I say this noting you mentioned Georgetown and Johns H). But keep in mind that not only do the colleges want to see you take the most rigorous senior courseload appropriate to YOU, but you are also competing against other students – you need to stay authentic to you, but you also need to realize that if the other applicants typically take 4 AP classes senior year, AND your school offers the opportunity for you take a large AP load…

The problem is that I’ve already taken all the Honors Science classes offered and I plan on taking 4 or 5 other AP classes. This means I will either take an AP or regular science and that is the problem I am currently facing…
