Can you just minor in mathematics by taking first-year calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability, and statistics, and major in something that isn't really related, say, chemistry, and still become an actuary? Can you become an actuary as long as you pass exams and get a bachelor's degree?

Also, how much do actuaries get paid compared chemists and chemical engineers?

From what I understand, all you need to do is pass the tests. Thats your best bet. Go to your business school and see what courses you need to take for certain tests. A math minor isn’t necessary for passing many of these tests. Instead courses like probability theory and financial derivatives will get you farther.

You can major in anything, but a minor in something like math, econ, or business will give you a better background for the actual work.
