To bike or not to bike...that is the question!

I’m sure the bride and groom appreciated the unkempt best man that smelled of patchouli and old sweat.

dude I’m pretty sure they have showers over there in California.

San Francisco’s a very urbanized city so biking and busing everywhere is easily done. Try doing that in… idk… Grand Forks, ND.

in urban cities such as SF, Minneapolis, NYC, etc, there are very good transportation systems. In other more rural areas, there’s the luxury of less traffic, cleaner air and smaller cities. There really is no excuse. I mean anyone who hasn’t biked the course of 15 miles has no idea how easy it really is.

I think I’d rather use a motorcycle if I lived somewhere less urban. It’s more eco-friendly than a car, faster than a bike, and better for long distances than a bike.

What I wish was that train transit didn’t suck so much in the US. In Europe you really don’t need a car because you can get most places by bike, walking, public transportation or rail transit. Yeah yeah I know the US is gigantic but would it really kill us to spend a tenth of what we spend on defense on high speed rail?

The cops can’t tag you if you’re on ur bike - at least they usually don’t. Motorcycles are a hell of a lot more dangerous too

hell no bra, we need to banish this world of tourists… and we need more oil to fuel our big ass cars.

The idea of trains is still so foreign to me. They’re trying to establish a DART railroad in Dallas, but the attempt is rather laughable… Public transit here is a joke.

I have plenty of issues with DC’s Metro but when I look at comparisons to other cities’ transit I realize it’s pretty damn good. National rail transport though (Amtrak) blows. Slower than an airplane, just as expensive, and some of the routes aren’t even scenic enough to make it worthwhile.

@ISUClub why would you need to not be ‘tagged’ if you’re on a bike? I’m pretty sure you won’t be breaking the speed limit unless you’re a strong cyclist, nor will you be running red lights unless you have a deathwish. Motorcycles ARE dangerous yes, but if you’re properly trained to use one then I don’t think it’s any more dangerous than a bicycle. A crash on a motorcycle CAN be worse because of the higher possible speeds, but again if you’re trained well then you’d know not to exceed the speed limit anyway.

When I visited my school in January I noticed a LOT of people were biking, and it got me started on the idea that I want a bike! I haven’t been on a bike in…years! Lol. Our bikes now serve as a playground for our cats in the garage, and I don’t even want to think about the helmets that are out there somewhere. There’s probably a family of mice living in them! I’m sure I could get one of the bikes fixed if I really tried, but between getting all the cat hair off and taking it to a repair shop it might be more worth it to just by a new, cheaper, bike!

But I think I’ll wait a semester so I can get the feel of my campus and see if a bike’s really necessary. I have a car, but most the buildings seemed fairly closed together. Plus my all my classes on MWF are in one building, and all my classes on TR are in another! So I have it pretty easy, and I don’t think it’ll be too stressful getting around.

Plus if I wait until the end of the semester I can ask Santa Claus for a new bike!

P.S.: I totally want a Razor Scooter for college now! I wonder if ours have survived the horror of our garage…

I always bike! Sure beats walking everywhere.

Just watch out for pedestrians.

I definitely want to bring my bike to school now after reading this thread, lol. But I found it in the garage yesterday and realized the brakes were a bit damage. Boo. I need to get it fixed.

I dont get why people want to ride a razor scooter around campus when skateboards are much faster and almost the same size.

You know what’s weird… I rarely see any skateboarders at my school.

In addition to bike riders and some unicycle kid, we have longboarders.

skateboards are old school now. Get wit it.

There are several girls at Clemson who skateboard/longboard to class haha

By the way in our town, a biker nearly got hit by someone backing up his car in the driveway the other day. The biker got mad so when he caught up to the car at an intersection, he picked up a cone and threw it at the car. The police got the biker though haha. Talk about road rage!
