With move-in day only 11 short days away now, is there any wisdom you would like to impart to us froshes about orientation, dorm life, social life, academic life...pretty much anything about the vanderbilt experience? Anything and everything is welcomed and appreciated.

Academically, be honest with yourself. Vandy is filled with 6000 people exactly to you. Everybody can't get straight A's. In fact, most people WON'T. Some people will even fail.

Be ambitious but don't let pride hinder yourself. Don't be too proud to admit that you're over your head if things don't go well immediately. Get a tutor if things aren't clicking immediately. Some people just a need a little time to adjust to a collegiate workload.

If you simply hit a brick wall, talk to your professor. Maybe dropping down a level or delaying taking a course might be in your best interest. Just don't lead yourself to think that your A)too dumb to be Vanderbilt or B)think that you'll fix it yourself eventually. This will kill you.

Keep to a loose but well-defined schedule. Do not become a slob. A regular regiment will make adjusting to college life and academics less challenging than it will be for some people.

Socially, be open. Drop whatever preconcieved notions you have about this or that. Experiment (take that however you will). Vanderbilt can be as provincal or as cosmopolitan as you want it to be. This will be the difference in loving and hating it there.

Along those lines, Vandy is the middle of a wonderful Southern city. There's more to Nashville then downtown bars/restaurants/tourist traps and Opry Mills IF you're willing to find it.

This will be last post in the Vanderbilt forum. I have decided (well a while ago, not just now) not to return to Vanderbilt from my hiatus. Therefore my advice on this forum will start to get older and less pertinent as time goes by. It is best therefore that I leave before I become stale. It has been a pleasure giving advice to you all. Good luck your Vanderbilt careers.

You will be missed. Thank you for all the help that you've given us neophytes.

Best of luck wherever you go.
