To Filipino People

I have another question about Filipino people in case I get one as a roommate and I don't want to offend him.

Question- Why are ALL Filipino people religious? I have yet to meet ONE Filipino person who doesn't believe in God or is not religious in some way. Why is this?

Thanks,

not all of them, but a lot of them tend to be catholics
usually not by choice and were raised that way
they have to follow what parents say and believe and so forth

You’re bound to meet religious people, I remember back in orientation, there was this common ground, and there were so little atheists O_o I thought there would be more

Generalization is bad.

We had a filipino AFS student live with us for a year. She was not particularly religious.

I had a college roommate that was filipino, and I don’t remember her being religious.

Most filipinos are muslim or catholic. They will just be normal. I don’t think you will have a problem.

Most American born/raised filipinos are thoroughly Americanized. Our AFS daughter was born and raised overseas and was remarkably westernized/americanized.

Don’t worry too much.

what’s with you and filipino people?

You’re bound to meet religious people, I remember back in orientation, there was this common ground, and there were so little atheists O_o I thought there would be more

Wow
On my common ground, half of the people were agnostic or atheist. I was one of them.

I just didn’t want a conflict between beliefs. Yadada mean?

As long as people don’t go around sticking religious arguments around I’m fine…

Yeah, it is bad to generalize. There are exceptions to every generalization/stereotype.

Like people have mentioned, most Filipinos are raised Catholic, and a significant portion are Muslim. It’s just how embedded it tends to get into culture or the way you/your parents were raised. My Filipino parents are very religious but are respectful and know that people don’t share the same beliefs. It just turns out I’m not religious (which could be a loose definition… and can have it’s own conversation, haha), although I was raised in and exposed to regular worship attendance, celebration of religious holidays, etc.

Anyway, you’ll be fine…

Yea, most filipinos are catholics. I’m actually agnostic, so that’s one exception.

The Philippines is predominantly Catholic based. So most Filipinos are Catholics. I don’t see how this is any different from most Caucasians and African Americans being apart of other Christian divisions.

shot I am catholic and I am no were near filipino though my great grand originated from the country that conquered it
