<p>Does anyone know what it takes to get from Finalist to Scholar? D won't get Corp money or college money so she is hoping for $2500 NM money. Also, any ideas on what they are looking for in an essay? Thanks for any help.</p>
<p>like 230+ psat very hard to get. 2500 is NM Semifinalist I think, NM is more like 16K? anyway its by the score I believe. NMSF depends on state but around 210-220 psat.</p>

<p>MOST national merit semi finalists will make NMF. Just be sure to meet the deadline and fill out the paperwork completely. It’s been said on other threads that this is the number 1 factor in moving on to finalist.
Having said that, making NMF does NOT guarantee the $2500 scholarship. In fact, only a small percentage of finalists get the money. The big money comes directly from colleges with NM scholarships. There is a wealth of information in the National Merit section on CC, including a detailed list of schools offering full-ride and other generous scholarships for NM.

<p>16,000 NMSF (1% of testers, 0.5% of HS graduates) become 15,000 NMF (more than half those disqualified by incomplete paperwork, a few by grades or behavioral record).</p>
<p>Of 15,000 NMF, about 8,500 receive some money–either from colleges (sometimes very large grants), corporations (often, but not always, children of employees), or NMS itself (about 2,500 of these). Criteria to get money from NMS are murky.</p>
