To gibby: Question about Supp essay

Dear Gibby, I have a question on supp essay.

My main essay is on my background story which doesnt elaborate much on my ECs.

Therefore, I have written a supp essay that gels my EC and passion together. I believe that it will give a more organic and cohesive perspective of why i devote my time to my specific EC. It is a 623 words essay though.

What are your opinions on this! Appreciate your time

Part of Harvard’s supplement is a 150 word essay about an extracurricular activity (which was part of the old common application).

Therefore, if you write an additional 623 word essay about your passions for your EC’s, your additional essay will be duplicative of the 150 extracurricular essay. You would be better served to submit an additional essay that allows Admissions to get know another side of you – something that hasn’t already been mentioned in your essay(s), teacher recs, guidance counselor’s SSR, or list of EC’s.

BTW: You can Private Message (PM) any CC member and ask their advice without posting a specific thread like this.

Thx gibby, thanks for your advice!

I am considering applying to Harvard and both Harvard and the CommonApp website say a Writing supplement is needed to the CommonApp and the answering of certain ‘questions’.
Problem:
I cannot find what this supplement task and the questions are, neither on Harvard’s nor on the CommonApp’s website.
Please tell me where these can be found!

Hey Pawprints, in commonapp, go under “My Colleges”, “Harvard College”, “Writing Supplement” Good luck :)

Gibby: I have one more question for you, thanks for your time in advance! Can my additional recommender submit his recommendation after the admissions deadline, say 1 or 2 days later?

Thx!

Thank you!!!

@CCUSER102: The deadline is for YOUR part of the application – everything that is under your control: The Common App with essays, Supplement with essays, and test scores. Everything else can dribble in, but your file will probably not be read until Admissions receives your transcript, SSR, and teacher recommendations.
