im aware that harvard is the most selective and highly sought after college in the united states, (possibly the world) and im determined to get in. during the freshmen year of my high school year i had a 1.3 GPA and my brother had Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. My sophomore year i had a 3.9 (non-weighted), started a full blown television production on my schools daily bulletin (a comedy show) was taking 2 math classes, and had gone from non prep english to recieving a recommendation for acc english (it was full already). i am now a junior, taking 4 AP classes, an accelerated math class, and physics. I run varsity cross country and am still doing my television show as well as some film work, and volunteer four hours a week. To compound this im looking at finishing first semester with a 4.0 minimum, and have a 2150 on the SAT, and am the AP history representative of student council. I have won the county science and marine biology presentational award, and was awarded top math, english, spanish, and history student the previous year. i am aware that this is an average harvard application at best, i assume by now that the reader is getting my question (ill give you a hint, its the title of the forum) what are my chances?

oh, i should add that i would like to be a communications major (with good communications skills) and want to work as a comedy show writer, then eventually host comedy television

1.3? You have an excuse, and show that you’re smart with your rapid increased gpa, but I’m still not sure. Maybe if you have a hook?

Wow. Your application is like a comeback movie. Don’t worry about the 1.3 too much. If it was Freshman mark, you don’t have to stress over it, especially if you have a compelling reason for it.
That said, other than that, nothing extraordinary I’m afraid.
If the personal achievement of going from 1.3 and 3.9 and your brother’s illness (sorry about that) can be perfectly applied to your essays, you might have a good chance.
People with similar stats if not lower stats have goten into Harvard because of their overcoming obstacles (living in ghetto, went through war) so good luck.

p.s. I’m basing my comment on an article I read about Harvard last year so take it with a spoonful of salt.

thanks alot, im writing a musical and am filming a documentary so ill try and work the whole “doing something unique” angle

Also, based on this profile, what are the chances for (in order of prestige and how much I want to go) Columbia, Yale, Penn, Chicago, stanford, and Tisch nyu tv school

Badump bump

I don’t think Harvard has a Communications major, other than writing for the Lampoon :-)

Hell, I’ll take the lampoon haha, and that’s partially why I’m asking the second question

Badump bump tshh
