Do you remember the essay question you had on your ISEE exam? The ERB produces a book entitled "What to Expect on the ISEE", which only gives three sample essay prompts. I want to get more of an idea about the types of questions that could appear on the exam. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Things have been quiet on this board this summer. If you do not get responses here, you can go to a large bookstore and look at the books on ISEE & SSAT test prep. I think there are books published by Princeton and Kaplan. There may be more.

True, Burb Parent. I didn't take the ISEE, but I took the SSAT, and I believe they have similar essay questions. Mine was: Agree or disagree: change is the hardest thing.

Burb Parent and prettykitty, thanks for your guidance. Unfortunately, the ISEE essay prompts apparently are not similar to the SSAT essay prompts. In the Educational Records Bureau's "What to Expect on the ISEE", there are three sample essay prompts (one for each test level).

The Lower Level essay prompt asks students to describe a perfect day. The Middle Level essay prompt asks students to explain how they could improve their community. The Upper Level essay prompt asks students to describe someone whom they admire. From just these three essay topics, I can assume that the questions are based upon students' values and interests. SSAT essay prompts, on the other hand, ask students to take a stand on a broad philosophical issue.

While the ISEE and SSAT require completely different types of essays, all the test prep books I've encountered claim that the SSAT-type essay question is also found on the ISEE. If someone with direct experience with the ISEE can better inform me, I would appreciate it.

I see, those do seem different. Hm. Any ISEE takers on here?

My S who took it a couple of years ago seems to remember that it was something like "Describe an inspirational experience."

I took the ISEE earlier this year. My essay question was along the lines of "If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?"

i was signed up, but when i got my ssat scores back, i decided not to take the isee since my ssat scores were so great, there was no point.

essay prompts change very much year to year (and are never recycled after that), and if you're looking for a hint on what specific essays to be prepared for, it's a total waste of time.
