To SCEA admits, what did you all write about for your essays?

Just out of curiosity, I would like to know what others (who were successful in the Yale selections process) wrote about for the required essay. I wrote mine and sent it in already, but now I'm beginning to feel nervous. Thanks.

For the Common App I wrote about an influential person. For the Suppl I wrote about why I wanted to go to Yale.

Your question is based on a false assumption. You assume that the subject of the essay is the determining factor when it's the contents and the sincerity that comes through the essay -- not the choice of subject. My essays were about practicing for a band competition and an incident where I betrayed the trust of my best friend. The first was rather mundane but sincere, the 2nd was more profound.

My common app was about time I spent with a random woman on bus from Boston to Manhattan. My "what we don't already know about you" was about how Hannah Montana related to my life and yet how I was the exact opposite of Hannah Montana. My Yale one was fun to write, my brother told me I could never do it and I did it. I geuss it worked out, I really liked it in the end

T26E4 is absolutely right--the topic of your essay really doesn't matter as much as the sincerity and skill with which you present your chosen topic.

for the record, my commonapp essay was about how my grandpa influenced me, and my supplement was essentially about how i like the outdoors--not the most "exciting" or "unique" topics, but i wrote them well and was accepted SCEA.

Like others have said, the topic does not matter. It can be mundane or entirely unique. What matters is how you express yourself, how your words reveal who exactly you are.

I didnt ask for your opinions on whether or not the topic matters. I asked what you all wrote about.

"Rejected SCEA, chance me for (insert Ivy here)."

Ring a bell?

Don't be a snot.

"I didnt ask for your opinions on whether or not the topic matters. I asked what you all wrote about."

And I can't wait to see you get rejected. Everywhere. Just like Stanford.

Wow, you just completely killed any chance of anyone else helping you in this thread. And your essays are going to suck no matter how much you try to improve them.

Not sure why we're mad at this guy, aside from making a 'just for shts and giggles' posts. If I got mad at everyone who on CC did that...

Yingcai - not a great idea to disrespect the thoughtful ccers who give only helpful advice and guidance to those who ask. If that attitude comes accross in your app in any way, the ivies look very doubtful for you.

I agree with the above posters. No need to snap at those who are only offering helpful suggestions. I actually read that UVa article and used the advice given to write my college essays (I got into Stanford).

Wow @ the rudeness here. I agree with Nick017.

I think yingcai was just asking for fun/out of curiosity... just as I was sitting here reading it out of curiosity. Obviously it's how you write it, not what you write about, but it's fun reading what people write about nevertheless.

But of course, if you were looking at his posting history and he's a troll, then I'm out of context.

wow, what an arrogant little piece of ****

i hope you get stuck at a community college

If by community college you mean Oxford, then sure.

When was the last time any of you ventured outside? Sitting all day in a dark room, venting all of your sexual and academic frustrations on the Yale board at people you wont ever meet or see....must be extremely exciting...

ChandlerBing and Ephemeral2....I asked a simple question, I couldnt care less if my question were based on "false assumptions." i fyou dont want to tell me what you wrote about, then the answer is simple - dont post.

Thanks to those who managed to provide assistance. I appreciate your comments.

yeah you guys obviously haven't mastered the first thing needed to use a forum; being able to read

you misconstrued basically everything yingcai said and then twisted it around because you're mad about your own failures

Haha, merry christmas dude.

Burned.

Ooh, Yingcai, you got into Oxford? Good on you. Wouldn't it be hella expensive though? Or it there a scholarship program?
