What did you guys write about in the Personal Statement on the Common Application?</p>

<p>I wrote about my grandpa telling me I couldn't get into college because of my laugh.</p>

<p>Yes.......</p>
<p>I wrote about how spending a summer abroad changed my worldview. Not the most original, but I guess it didn't hurt too much.</p>
<p>i wrote about the struggles that my mother faced while i was growing up and how that influenced who i became as a person...sounds like a corny typical i love my mommy essay but it was very deep and emotional....used the essay for a scholarship and had the scholarship donor in tears so it was not a typical essay about a mother and her influence</p>
<p>I wrote a descriptive piece about being in a marching band show.</p>
<p>I wrote about my part time job, leading into me talking about my environment at home.</p>
<p>I basically explained why I had gotten bad grades in math classes all throughout high school and wrote about how a summer at a science lab had changed my perspective on the subject.</p>
<p>I think it's a very good idea to highlight a weak point in your application and try to explain it.</p>
<p>^ By bad grades do you mean lower than B's? It's strange because I was thinking about doing an essay just like that explaining (what else?) Math and how I've struggled with it but having it be comical.</p>
