Alright, if you anti-drug people are gonna get on your high horse, let me get on mine. Drugs are better than religion, video games, comic books and all the TV shows you watch combined, yes you heard me.

Can an XBox360 make your lady friend more friendly? No.
Do comic books make you more sociable? No.
Does watching TV allow you to dance all night at the club? No.
Does Christianity...do anything? No.

Whether your smoking weed on 4/20 with your friends, drinking at the pub after a tough midterm/final exam or popping some pills at a rave to dance all night, drugs enhance those sensations by many times.

I study, I stay home on Fridays and Saturdays sometimes, I pay my own rent (live off campus), buy my own groceries and fix up my own apartment when its needed. I'm a full time student with a part time job that I log at least 20 hours a week and I'm putting myself through school. I also take drugs. Smoke weed, pop pills, drink alcohol, take the occasional mushroom and smoke seesha. You wanna live a drug free life, fine, just don't get on your high horse and preach to me about it.

I agree with ICrisis. I party when i feel like it and there is nothing wrong with it. I started drinking when i was a Junior in high school and things like my grades did not drop, i am still the same person. If anything, they almost went up. One thing i really cannot stand is self righteous people who put themselves above me because i have 'bad morals'. i could go on, but i dont want to start an argument.

I'm probably one of those weird cases - I am in a sorority, and I've never been to a crazy party (and have no desire to), have never had alcohol (and have no desire to), have never smoked (gross), and never done drugs (bad). I like being in control of myself. I am minorly OCD (though not diagnosed) and I need to be in control of all my actions 24/7. The good thing is that this will prevent me from ever taking drugs or getting drunk. I don't like to put myself in situations where anything bad could happen to me. And I have tons of friends who all feel the same way. Unfortunately, I do have a few friends that drink, and it's hard for me to get accustomed to that habit of theirs...

If you want to get drunk or do drugs on your own time, fine. Just don't get behind the wheel. Smoking is another issue, though - I feel it should only be allowed in the privacy of smoker's own homes. Otherwise, everyone else has to breath in your carcinogens. And I don't want cancer, thank you very much.

I'm not a goody-two-shoes study addict. I go to the movies, I play games, I go to the theatre, go ice skating, bowling, etc with my friends, and we always have a lot of fun. Without drugs or alcohol. College and drugs/alcohol do not go hand in hand. And I'd say that a good 1/3 of my college (at least) doesn't drink or do drugs. (Ah, the benefits of a Methodist university.)

I don't think people who drink or do drugs are any worse than people who don't. Everyone has their own thing, and I admit that I may drink a bit and even smoke the occasional joint, but I believe in moderation, and I think it's pointless for people to get ****ed drunk, when they have no control of themselves and can completely ruin a party. I drink enough to get a good buzz, and then I usually stop. I even don't blaze as much as I used to, and I think my brain is better for it. But I don't believe people should be judged based on what they do in their spare time -- just don't try to influence me into doing things I know I don't want to do.

Meh, I'm not into the whole party scene and have no desire to drink or do drugs, and I've met plenty of folks at my school that share my attitude towards these things.

Agreed, same here. Nice post wutang, good to see that you've turned your life around.

Not sure why anyone would spend 100k plus for a college education that in many cases primarily consists of 4 years of boozing and partying.

I encourage everyone to see the movie Half-Nelson...great film about lonliness and addiction...not at all preachy or melodramatic

Again, do what you do

I just get kind of annoyed with the double-standard where a poor person smokes crack and he's a criminal, a rick kid at duke freebases coke, and he's just having a good time letting loose.

I'm the first to admit I don't drink or do drugs. I don't look down on people that drink if they're not stupid about it (although I've never seen a reason to drink). If someone can go out, drink, and maintain their grades, so be it. If people are just at school to party, that's a whole different ball game.
I don't drink or party simply because that's just not me. I've always liked more quiet fun. I have plenty of friends. We have movie nights, go to football and hockey games. I don't see any reason to drink for any of those activities (although I know that there are plenty of people that do), and I remember the fun I've had. I've just never seen the point of parties, or getting so drunk you can't remember anything, or so that you're throwing up. To me it's pointless. But that's just my opinion. I know I'm in the minority
And for what it's worth, I'm a sophomore at a university that is consistently listed as a party school. I've found plenty of other things to do here, and am really enjoying myself. It helps that I live in the honors dorm. There are still some partiers here, but a lot less than in other dorms (the 10 story freshmen towers, for example). I've found a lot of friends with thoughts similar to my own on this issue, and we have plenty of fun.

There was some recent research that indicated social drinkers have a higher average salary than non drinkers, because drinkers tend to be more social and out there making important connections in life.
