What are you trying to accomplish w/ this thread SSobick???

To increase public awareness.

People from Florida (my home state) don’t understand the national paradigms about higher education.

SSobick is an elitist and seems to be an expert in trashing every place except UF or <insert more=“” prestigious=“” university=“” than=“” uf.=“”></insert>

It is important to look at the facts, but even more important is to look for the RIGHT FIT.

Higher education is what you make it. Its the mind stimulation that counts not the physical environment…

As far as higher test scores your correct, FSU is better… But there are some good things happening over at UCF and their degree will be much better in the next ten years.

Also by the way… Orlando has tons of job opportunities and orlando employers regard UCF grads as gold. Thus, the degree can beat FSU’s depending on who you meet/where you are.

I know UF is not the end-all-be-all but it’s a damn good school, and was ranked the 2nd best overall value by Kiplinger.

You call me an elitist, but I believe that we all need to be more realistic about how we view Universities in the state of Florida.

I am sorry for telling it as is…

Also let’s post this debate on the College Selection forum. I guarantee the rest of the national higher education community will agree with my assessment.

Che Guevara is a communist. And yes, I have a problem with Capitalism and snobby elitists like you. Tell me, are you a Republican?

^ I am an Independent.

Here is a link to the thread on the Main College selection page:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/462590-florida-state-vs-university-central-florida.html

I would urge everyone to look into USF as well. I think it’s one of the up and coming universities in FL.

^ I agree. USF > UCF

USF produces over $300 million in research.

why do you guys need to know what top university he goes to? how will that change whether you believe him or not? you still won’t know his name, so you wouldnt be able to look him up anyway? omg…get a life people lol

I applaud SSobick for starting this thread. There seems to be a major misconception about UCF. It’s a 3rd/4th tier commuter school with a decent engineering program. No disrespect to UCF, but comparing it to FSU is just ludicrous. FSU should be compared with UF. UCF should be compared with the USF’s and FIU’s of the world. In 4 years, the gap between FSU and UCF would be even greater.

Anyone who knows anything about higher education, like SSobick, would tell you that FSU is light years ahead of UCF. Honestly, it’s not even close.

Evidently I should be stoned as a traitor to the Gatornation because I actually think FSU is a respectable University. This is not fair.

There is no way one can compare UF to FSU. People from my school this year got weight listed at UCF but accepted at FSU but would not even have thought of applying to UF because they would have been laughed at. So what was that FSU > UCF, yeah right.

The PhD candidate believes he has enlightened us with his flawed thinking.

Success is there (in any Florida public university) only for the students that want it. Just because one university makes more money in research or revenue does not mean that every student is going to be successful at that university or has any kind of intellect.

"but I believe that we all need to be more realistic about how we view Universities in the state of Florida. " Wrong subject Pronoun. All "we"s should be changed to "I"s.

“I guarantee the rest of the national higher education community will agree with my assessment.” Where are you getting this from?

And to your dismay, most likely I will not attend UF, and I know many people who have done the same thing and do not regret it.

^ “I know many people who done the same thing and do not regret it.”

If your going to correct my grammer, please try and have correct grammer yourself.

I was not trying to correct grammar. You wrote “we” as if we shared the same view. It is YOU who shares that particular view.

“many people who done the same”

Seriously is this perfect grammer?

Perhaps you meant to say:

I know many people who have made this same selection, and they have not lived to regret choosing UCF.

–Doesn’t that sound better?

SSobick can’t even spell grammEr. HAH! It’s grammar.
