I’m a sophomore who currently attends St. Louis University and I enjoy being here. My only problem is that I’m currently in the process of building up my GPA. I started out with a 2.15 when I was pre-med last year but and now I have a 2.4. After this semester, I should be able to finish with a 2.7 or 2.8. I’m considering transferring to the University of Cincinnati which is closer to my hometown for the following reasons:
- I won’t have to keep my old GPA from SLU and start out with a new one.
- Cheaper because it’s in-state and a public university.
- Better business program and an easier curriculum compared to SLU.
Are these some good reasons to transfer or not?
Yeah, UC is pretty easy so it will be easier for you to keep your grades up
Thanks! I was thinking about staying but I don’t want to spend 4 years at SLU playing catch up and stressing out about not getting leadership positions and internships due to grades. So I think that having a new start would be more beneficial for me and my future.
@oaktree2018 just because transferring isn’t the traditional choice, doesn’t mean it’s the wrong choice… I think you’re making the right move!
@notarobot124 Thanks man! I’m also considering University of Dayton and maybe Ohio University.
@oaktree2018 UD is more frat heavy than UC and has a preppier vibe and parties tend to have more alcohol than drugs. It’s also a smaller school, if you’re looking for that. OU is more heavy on drugs and is definitely a party school. Both schools are pretty fair with grading, as far as I have heard (I know people who attend each of these schools). Wherever you go, I think you’ll enjoy the midwestern charm
@notarobot124 I don’t mind the fratty vibe. As a matter of fact, I’m actually considering it. And I’m pretty used to the preppy vibe at SLU so UD won’t be anything too different. But I think I’m going to make my decision based on the amount of financial aid I get from each school because all are great choices.
@oaktree2018 makes sense to consider financial aid! Good luck!
Just remember that your GPA may “reset” on your new college’s transcript, but grad schools will still see your old grades on your transcript.
@janizary would that put me at a big disadvantage or not?
@oaktree2018 What’s done is done. Just focus on getting As in every class from now on.
@janizary True. I’m still going to consider my options regardless
