hey guys. i am a 1st year student at a small university in frerdericton, new brunswick (st thomas university). i always wanted to go to mcgill but didnt end up going there because i got offered a full tuition scholarship here at st thomas. now i really want to transfer to mcgill but i have my doubts. here i pay 6000 can-dollars a year, at mcgill i would pay like 9000 dollars more, is it worth it? further i am kinda scared my marks would drop significantly. i have a 4.0 gpa but st thomas is considered a very easy liberal arts school.
also i was wondering if transfer students entering their 2nd year of univeristy studies can live in residence at mcgill and if yes what are the chances to get a room.
thanks for any advice

any advice please?

i have friend from frerdericton on my floor....he absolutely loves it here...he doesnt even go back to frerdericton now...

not sure if that helps...

i really doubt u can get a room here though...they dont even have enough room for all the first years...

Hey, I don't know if this will be of help at all because, really, it's a matter of personal preference. I love it here at McGill and living in Montreal is fantastic - a really good experience. School is A LOT of work, and yes, there's a good chance that if you came here your GPA would drop - however, McGill is regarded very well, so a lower GPA from McGill might be more impressive than a higher one from St.Thomas (I don't really know much about St.Thomas, so I can't really say). And it's not ALL about grades - you should consider where you think you'll be getting the best quality of education, too.

Housing is VERY limited. Though you will be able to request housing, there's no promise that you'd get it. However, apartments in Montreal for students are all over the place - and, actually, they tend to be substantially cheaper than living in res is anyway. McGill has an "Off-Campus Housing Office" that can help you with all.

Also, a small warning: transfering into McGill is competative (more than just regular admissions, generally). However, it sounds like you're a pretty awesome student (4.0!) so it's definitely worth a shot if you're interested.

Don't know if that was helpful at all, but best of luck figuring everything out anyway!

thanks for the advice

Laney, dear, second years practically always get what room they want. So I haven't been on this site in like forever I really have no idea why I came on. Oh wait yeah I do, my friend from back home was asking me college questions and i was like GOD WAS I THIS ANNOYING? and yes, I was. So I thought I could come back on and maybe answer some questions, to kind of pay it back.

Anyhow, yeah, getting apartments are cheaper anyways, if you're concerned about money. And I'd say transfer. First off, we have so much fun here. Second, when looking for a job, people aren't going to ask what your GPA is. They are going to look be like "Ok, this person graduated from some University" However, if they look at your CV/resume (depending on what you choose to call it) and see McGill its like, "Hm, this person graduated from the top-ranked University in Canada"

Transfer.
