mines going to stanford.

Valley City State University haha. He only applied there and is going there to be close to his girlfriend and child. mhm

the thing is, at my school the valedictorian isn't associated with being the best overall student, just the one who happened to be the valedictorian by virtue of getting into the right classes

My class has co-valedictorians, and they are twin brothers. Both were accepted to all the colleges they applied to, which included Princeton, Harvard, and Stanford. One is going to Harvard and the other is going to Princeton. They'll both be playing football for their schools, which I think is kinda funny. Our whole school loves them, and they are really great people, so we're really proud of them. I swear some day those kids will rule the world.

2005 valedictorian:
accepted - cornell, columbia, brown, princeton, harvard, yale, upenn, stanford: will be attending harvard

2005 salutatorian:
accepted: brown, cornell, swarthmore, williams, and a lot of others: will be attending brown.

dis is suprising..REALLY SURPRISING. I was like. Wata da?!!!
valedictorians:
2005: Santa Monica College (community college) he was accepted to Brown, Caltech, USC, and Stanford. He is poor. Really. He says he can't afford the price tag of the schools and that even the financial aid couldn't help. He said also if he moves too far away, he can't get a job to support his mom. Sad that money prevents one of the smartest people i have ever met to get an undergraduate degree.

Can someone tell me how this valedictorian system works? how can one school has 75 valedictorians and another has only 1? Does the principal of a high school pick who will be the valedictorian?

how can a school have 75 vals? thats crazy!!

They all tie for first place GPA- That's how Val is picked at my school, at least

This year, valedictorian is going to the United States Military Academy. Last year, the valedictorian went to Williams.

last #1 and #2 went to yale and mit. this yr, its u of missouri and some place in australia

I would guess like some schools are doing around here.... Honors/AP, are worth the same as non-honors. So a ton of people just end up getting 4.0's.

our val got into every ivy except columbia.

how can u have 75 valeds? our school prevents that and only has 1 (even though the valed gets no title).

our valed is taking this prestigious scholarship to go to an in-state school

72 valedictorians?! That is insane! That is why our school does GPAs numerically, like 102.3344. Our school does it to four decimal places, so that there will only be one valedictorian.

On another note, it seems ironic to me that the salutatorian always goes to a better school...

shrek,
schools have a variety of GPA weighting (or non-weighting schemes) that are used to determine class rank and val/sal. My son's school does unweighted GPA and ranking - they had 12 vals last year, and will have around 10 this year. About half are on the AP/honors track and half aren't.

He actually got rejected by his top Ivy league choices--so he went to UVA.

[quote]
is your valedictorian normally the person who goes to the "best" college? cuz at my school, it's not (although it is usually by their personal choice).

First off, define "best."

Our Val is going to Harvey Mudd College, turned down UCLA and USC.

Our Sal is going to UCLA, turning down UCB, USC, and Cornell.

Our #3 is going to Bowdoin.

Me, the #10, is going to Georgetown, turning down Williams, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt.

The SB President, who is going to USC, is turning down UCB and UCLA.

Each of the schools are leaders in their respective fields; the term "best" is relative.
