<p>The Pac 12 awards the Tom Hansen Conference Medal to a male and female athlete who have an outstanding record in leadership, scholarship and athletics. These are awarded in July. USC's women's rowing captain, Melanie Grindle, won the women's Hansen Conference Medal. Melanie was the Pac 12 Rowing Athlete of the Year, an All Pac 12 Academic All American and served as team captain for the team that came in 4th nationally. She graduated with a 3.63 from the Marshall School of Business with a BA in Business Administration.</p>
<p>SC's quarterback, Matt Barkley, was awarded the Tom Hansen Conference Medal for his fine record and achievements. Matt broke many records at SC and was team captain for three years. He won the Wuerffel Trophy and was a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete among other awards. He was an honor student and earned his undergraduate degree from the Annenberg School of Communication & Journalism.</p>
<p>Each Pac 12 university has two Hansen Medal winners.</p>
