So I was deferred EA and just applied ED2 and am doing everything I can to get in. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be thrilled if I got in but I’m beginning to feel scared about my decision to bind myself. If i do magically get in, I feel like I will actually DIE there. I’m not super smart (31 ACT), GPA is not the highest, not the best at studying, don’t LOVE studying every subject out there, and don’t know if I exactly fit the stereotype of the school.
I applied because I love the location, general quirkiness/oddness of the school, academia, CAMPUS, (ranking ofc for the clout), and just how unique the school is in comparison to other top schools.
Should I be stressed? I probably won’t even get in so maybe I’m overthinking this but idk what do you guys think?
You’ve applied, nothing else you can do. Try to focus on other things until decision day. Good luck.
Trust the Admission Office. They have a large pool of qualified candidates. Retention rate at The College is close to 100%. If they offer you admission, congratulations: you are qualified.
There is no stereotype student in any top 20 (or even top 100) schools. You define yourself at The College. As long you have your work ethics, you will do well in your undergrad years.
Is there any benefit whatsoever to being stressed? I thought not.
@stockphotohumor - what @85bears46 is saying. Plus, the overachieving studiers are all taking 4 classes and/or honors courses. Full load is three, not four, and regular courses or less challenging tracks are fine for rigor (it’s not like less selective schools where you need to get into honors college in order to challenge yourself). Many students begin with three in order to ease into the quarter system - others start with four but drop one if they feel it’s too much (there is an Add/Drop period that you should follow). Eventually you’ll need to ramp it up but save that for when you are ready for it. There is plenty of time. You will get your money’s worth in terms of challenge and intellectual engagement - my D is taking the easier track of Calculus and non-major science sequences and feels PLENTY challenged! - but there is a good amount of academic and social support - not to mention internship and career placement support - there to help you. And keep in mind that everyone in your class will be going through the same experience. You wouldn’t be the only one concerned about the workload or wondering if you can survive. With a near 100% retention rate, obviously those concerns tend to be addressed adequately each year.
Good luck to you!
@Lindagaf unfortunately there IS stress in applying to colleges, moving, getting married, changing jobs…something that you just have to deal with.
@CU123 the student asked if he/she SHOULD be stressed. I answered. There is no point in finding something new to stress about.
Yes, everyone deals with stress while applying to college, but it’s fruitless to fret about getting in because you think you aren’t smart enough or intellectual enough. They either want what you offer, or they don’t. If they think you belong there, you will get in.
thanks guys!! it’s definitely pointless to worry about something out of my control like this
You actually do have some control because you can always contact your AO and request being switched back to RD. EDII probably has better odds but it is also a binding commitment if accepted. Your fears of washing out are totally understandable - if that’s your only hesitation, rest assured that an acceptance means you most likely will do just fine there. If your fears are masking a change of mind, that’s something else. So try to understand what is motivating your fears.
