Too early to look for Accounting Internships?

Hey, I am a Freshman and an Accounting Major. I have been looking for Internships, as from what I've read, heard, and seen, they are very important. However, is it too early for me to expect to get one? I have pretty much no Accounting knowledge, as all I am taking right now are lower core curriculum classes, so I feel that it will be tough for me to land an internship. So should I just wait until I'm a Sophomore or Junior, or should I keep pursuing?

I’m not an accounting major, but I’ve also read many internship job descriptions. From what I have noticed, they want you to have at least 80 units on average, the first 2 basic Accounting classes that all business majors need to take, Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting, are always at least the bare minimum. You cannot do an accounting internship without the foundation, but most likely, they’d want you to have a few of the more advanced accounting courses with at least a B in each course under your belt as well.

What you need to do for now as a freshmen is get the basic Accounting courses out of the way along with any other pre-business courses required at your school and maintain at least a 3.4 overall gpa, which can be considered generous for many accounting internships. You need to be at the top of your class by your junior and/or senior years if you want an internship at a Big4.

Start attending Big Four events on campus. Build a profile. Keep your grades up.

You are a freshman, so you have plenty of time. Unlike some of us…

Any experience you can get in a job or internship related to accounting is good, no matter what year you are. They help prepare you for the job market and help build your resume.

But the important internships are the summer before you graduate. These internships make (or not for the unfortunate) a job offer for when you graduate.
