I'm going to be done with my final SAT on Saturday, so, I was thinking of possibly starting to study for the GRE. Does anyone think it is too early to study for it? (I'm a HS senior btw). If not, then what books or online resources do you recommend?

Wait until junior year in college to study for the GRE.

bumpity bump bump

You would be the first high school student that I know who is even considering taking the GRE test. My hats off to you. There are quite a few similarities between the GRE and the SAT, and it may make sense to take the test now, but you would be in a small minority.

The issue is how certain you are that you would be going to graduate school. You are young and plans change, you might decide to go to business school. So those are some variables to consider.

However, if you are still keen on studying then I recommend the following steps:
Cost: $20 + your time.

1) Review all of the different types of questions on the GRE. Use the following official document from the test writers(ETS, same guys who write the SAT).
http://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/practice_book_GRE_pb_revised_general_test.pdf

Read pages 15 to 33, then take the practice test on page 35. The idea here is to get a rough baseline for where you are. You won’t do as well here but it gives you a sense of where you stand. However, if you are scoring 2200+ on the SAT, you will likely do well.
Also, recognize that this is a paper based test but the actual exam is computer based. I will talk about this later.

2) Buy the Official Guide to the Revised GRE from ETS[About $20 from Amazon]. It is the equivalent of the SAT Blue Book. Review all of the content and go through all the practice questions.
[GRE The Official Guide to the Revised General Test with CD-ROM, Second Edition (Official Guide to the Gre): Educational Testing Service: 9780071791236: Amazon.com: Books](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/007179123X/gre062-20)

3) Take one more paper based test that is in the Official Guide.

4) Now you are ready for the actual computer based format of the GRE. Download Official PowerPrep II software[Free] from ETS’s website:
[GRE Revised General Test: POWERPREP II Software](POWERPREP Practice Tests: Prepare for the GRE General Test)
This test is section adaptive, meaning depending on how well you do on the first section, the difficulty level of the subsequent math or verbal section will change. Not much you can do about it, just do your best.

5) Based on the result, fine tune your preparation and focus on the areas that you are weak.

Cheers,
Dabral
