Too Good To Go…..who has tried it?

OMG! I essentially live in between Wall and PT Pleasant - on the beachside of the Manasquan Drawbridge if you are familiar with the area! Ocean Grove is such a cute town despite some of the politics with which I disagree.

Lots of NNJ/NY people have been moving into the area so there is hope. There are great croissants in the area so maybe bagels will be next!

How far south are your friends? We shore people don’t usually consider ourselves South Jersey.

Lol the farthest south is Toms River, that seems to be the cut off. My grandparents had a house 3 blocks from the beach on Norwood Ave. in Avon, summer house and then permanent, so I spent a lot of my summers there. My son and 12 friends get a summer rental in manasquan every year (3 bedroom 1 bath 2nd Ave by the bars). My daughter is performing every Sunday in august at the columns by the sea (she’s a cpa to pay the bills). I think I actually checked the app when we were in point pleasant a few weeks ago and didn’t find much? I would consider moving to the area after retirement and downsizing, this winter will be my daughter’s first one there and I’m sure it’s a different vibe.

It’s a very small world! I’ve probably walked by your son’s place a million times. I’ve been here 30 years and things have really changed. It was very quiet in the winter and crazy in the summer. Now it’s pretty crazy in the winter and even crazier in the summer. I’m available should your daughter have any winter questions.

I downloaded the app and found that there isn’t much in walking distance for me. But I get something similar at an Eastern European market where they have packaged assorted deli meat ends for like $2 a pound. It’s fun to try all the different hams and sausages.

That right there is my youth! I grew up in Freehold and my entire summer was spent on those beaches.

We call this dollar meat or butts and guts. It’s usually the end pieces that can’t be sliced or oversliced meats. When D was taking lunches to school I bought them often as she didn’t like sandwichs. I’d cut the pieces into sticks or roll the slices. I still look in that section if I’m making a chopped salad or antipasto. I also use the cheeses for mac and cheese.

Ok, finally hit the time right to try a bag of sides from a local cafe!

How does it work? Do I go in and have a QR code or something? I got a confirmation email with an “order ID” but no other instructions (besides the pick up time)

I’m excited to see what we get. We like this cafe, so that’s a plus.

@JustaMom let us know what you got and the cost.

You should just have to show your email.

I think my husband just has to show something on his app when picking it up.

What a great use of apps/tech to reduce food waste while also giving opportunities for good deals trying new items.

Since this thread was launched, I’ve tried:

Eataly
A local empanada place
Three local bakeries
Upper Crust Pizza (two different locations)

I now regularly (at least weekly) get from Eataly and had had some fantastic deal; one week, a $20 grovery bag had over $100 of items, including a $40 bottle of olive oil.

The local bakeries were a waste of $ and the pizza place, wasOk but not worth the time to pick-up!

WOW!

Good news - 2 places in town now listed (but out of stock for today). They are both donut places, but I did tell my husband yesterday tha twe should do donuts next week when I am on pre-colonoscopy, low fiber diet. One donut places is walking distance, and the other is a potato-flour donut shop we have been wanting to try.

Olive Oil

This is my current Olive Oil ‘stash’ - I’ve decanted some from the large dented can and it is my everyday cooking oil; of the others, I’ve had two of the large truffle oil and I’ve gifted them ($50 each!), the one next to the can is my ‘everyday’ salad oil & medicine, I’ve also had two others that I’ve used, and the others in the stash are not yet open. I love 2 Good to Go - you never know what you’ll get - and if it’s from Eataly you know its good!

@JustaMom what did you get??

Tried posting all day yesterday but CC was glitching left and right…

Ok - so I paid $5.38 total - I received 1 pint each of brown rice, kale slaw & steamed zucchini - I planned to make a frittata, so I incorporated the sides. Not a great pick up, but it was ok. I may try again. Mostly it’s donuts and pizza shops on the list, and we’re not interested in those.

There is one place 40 minutes from us…a market. I’m going to pass until there are more options.

Thanks for reviving this thread! I had forgotten about the app. I just reserved a bag from a local farm-type place.

These often don’t work out for us because almost everyone in my house has to eat gluten free. But they are still fun, and the one member of my house who doesn’t need gluten-free food can get some real treats sometimes.

One struggle is that places, at least here, havd short pick up windows. The bagel place we use it the most has a window from 2:45 - 3. My husband works a half hour away, he does a combo of office/wfh, he usually comes home between meetings/calls, but it’s not easy to get to that 15 minute window. I assume he will be late at some point, wonder what happens.
