Too late for financial aid?

When I applied to my schools on the Commonapp I didn't think I would qualify for need-based financial aid, so I marked that I would not be applying for need-based aid on my apps. However, after reevaluating with my parents this week, we've decided that it is worth the shot. Is it too late to fill out the FAFSA/CSS Profile and turn it in by Feb 15th? Can I call/email my colleges to change this on my app? Any help would be appreciated!

It is not too late to do the FAFSA or Profile if your college deadlines are Feb 15th (or even Feb 1 if you get to work on it now). Regarding your marking on the common app-I don’t think that will hinder you from applying now, but to play safe, call the colleges. From what I understand about the app process, colleges that are need-aware or sensitive may use that indication on the common app in their selection process. Generally applying for aid is through a separate office from admissions, so you should check with them directly (call tomorrow!). There are many highly experienced posters here who probably can give you a definitive answer. Good luck!

Ok, thanks! So I’m new to the whole fin aid process… For most schools do we need to simply fill out and send in the FAFSA and CSS Profile?

You need to find out what exactly each school requires. Some want only FAFSA. Some want FAFSA and Profile. Some want both plus more. It’s easy to find out–just go to their websites and when in doubt, email or call.
