I'm currently a sophomore in college and I didn't start my college career too well. My first semester GPA was 2.4, however this went up to 3.1 and again to 3.5 over the past semesters. I'm sure I can keep my GPA stable from here after, but my cumulative GPA that I apply to medical schools won't be more than 3.3-3.4

I also have quite a bit of volunteer work under my belt and am trying to get some internship work in this summer, as well as some research in the future.

I was just wondering what my chances of getting into a medical school in the United States are and if anyone had any advice on what I can do to help boost my chances. Obviously i'm going to be trying to best to get the best grades I can as well as good a good MCAT score.

sGPA is just as important as your cGPA. If you’re a science major, you’ll have plenty of other science coursework to help raise your sGPA. If you’re not, then you’ll need to consider a grade enhancing post bacc program.

Assuming your sGPA and cGPA are somewhere in the vicinity of 3.3+ and your MCAT score looks good, consider applying to DO schools.

And definitely, wait to apply to any and all medical schools until after graduation. (To give yourself more time to raise that GPA.) You’ll need to take a glide year, but that’s only a small detour on the way to your goal.

My science GPA is also on the upward trend, currently around 3.0 and I am a biology major so I will be taking plenty of science classes during the years (and summer).

Thanks for the tips! I will probably be applying after graduation as you advised :)
